I used to have Skype on my Mac years ago when it first came out, but no-one else really in my family picked up on the idea, even though I bought them USB phones etc.

Anyway, my Dad lives in Florida and it is costing around £6-8 for a phone call to them every other week.

They have spoken about using Skype and I have seen an app for it. I heard there were issues with it on Jailbroken phones but are these now fixed?

can you add me so I can test it -

earwig999 - in the directory.

I put it on but it gave me a message saying it was not supported? Looks to be working though, just need to test

How did you manage that bod ? i tried this the other week through cydia installed everything then had to do a reboot, bang in dfu mode had to do a full restore via itunes. I wish someone would find a fix for this on j/b phones 3.1.2.

working for me too, I'm on Version 3.0 FW though.

what i mean is when cydia asks you to reboot did your phone not go into recovery mode? if not can you tell me how you managed to get skype up and running, as when i tried the phone just kept going into recovery mode and i had to do a restore thus starting over again.

Dont take it the wrong way mate im not saying you haven't done it, its just that i cant suss it lol.

the only thing i can think of is that I set up skype b4 jailbreak, never had any issues

I've had it for many months too, works fine on jailbroke 3.1.2 never had a problem with skype or phone going into recovery. I always use skype for family in spain and children with skype mobiles, cant beat free :) I dont know the answer though TheJackel, i just jailbreak and install same as installing any app etc.
I've had skype on before latest JB, but i've had jailbreaks previous to that so dont think the order matters?

Don't know if this is still the case but wasn't there an issue with one of the jailbreak methods that if you reset your phone you had to plug it back in the PC and do it again to get it back on. Not sure if it was Blackra1n. It was a recent one though. That could be your problem.

They said it's best not to switch of your phone as you have to do it all again. I could be linked to that?

Also, why are you trying to install Skype through Cydia, it's on App Store for Free and previous versions are on AppTracker (Installous).

Install 3g unrestrictor and add skype to the list, that way you can use it anywhere rather than be stuck to wi-fi hotspots (not that o2 approve of this this)

@Jackel - why are you doing a full restore rather than just using blackra1n to just unlock it again when it goes into recovery mode?

Yes i just found this out last night that i can just use blackrain again and it takes it back to its last settings, doh anyway i will try the 3g restricter thing see how i get on cheers.

:grab: you can just use dialwise uk it only cost 1p aminute to the usa mobile or landline and no need for anyone else to have skype

It cost 1p per minute for the international call, but you will be charged 3.36p peak per minute for the 0844 number as well!

I'm struggling to get Skype to stay on. I have Backgrounder running and it shows as having Skype enabled in the background but when I check on the wifes iPhone it says I am logged out??
