    Ipad A1458 dead no functions

Hi All can anyone help with this? I am trying to recover an Ipad A1458, that appears dead e.g. none of the reset functions appear to have any effect e.g. power / home buttons combinations don't resolve the problem. However if I connect it to PC Itunes automatically opens and states its in recovery mode and gives the option to recover the device, but when option is chosen it appears to load the recovery software but just stops stating "waiting for ipad" but nothing else happens until eventually it reports error 4005. Anyone have any ideas how to resolve? PS: batteries charged, usb cable replaced and nothing is displayed on screen. Thanks!

Have you got the latest iTunes installed on your PC ?

Does it give the option to update the iPad or just recover ?

Hi thanks for the reply! I do have latest Itunes installed on windows 7 PC, I have also ran repair on the Apple mobile device support and all appears to be ok. The option it gives is to recover & update which when selected seems to load and states preparing update but when loaded it just goes to waiting for Ipad and eventually fails with message "unexpected error 4005" and fails.I have opened and inspected internally and there's no physical, water penetration damage etc and I have measured the battery voltage and its 4.2, volts off load. Also because the screen is blank I'm unable to establish what mode the ipad is in other than to say Itunes reports its in recovery. It seems that Itunes is unable to resolve problem due to possible hardware failure or corrupted firmware and I was thinking there maybe some other software tools that would be more effective. Regards!

iTunes can't load software onto a dead device.
When you say "it appears dead", do you mean there is no display/no power led?

There's nothing from the ipad no display after re-boot etc. But clearly when connected to PC it communicates with itunes which says its in recovery and prompts to restore and upgrade, but after what appears to be loading recovery software from Apple server a message states "waiting for Ipad" which does not change and eventually I get a message "unexpected error 4005" and nothing else happens. If it is recoverable I need something that will get it out of what appears to be stuck in a loop!

What signs of life are you getting from it? You mention a reboot, how are you doing that if it isn't booting in the 1st place?
Does the power led light up?
4.2v from the battery off-load doesn't necessarily mean a good battery, that is the loaded voltage. The main voltage PPVCC_MAIN (4.7v) is derived from the battery PPBATT_VCC (4.2V).
My first test would be to check if these voltages are present and correct. It's recognised by iTunes because of PPVBUS_USB_DCIN, voltage supplied from your pc.

Firstly the Ipad does indeed appear to be completely dead. But when I connect it to PC I hear the usb connection sound and it did correctly identify an apple device was connected. Also if I hold the Sleep / power and home buttons I hear the device disconnect and re-connect from the PC and Itunes auto opens when I do this, which I'm assuming is indicating reboot attempt. Coupled with that Itunes states the ipad is in recovery mode and says it must be updated before use but fails to recover it with error 4005. Secondly I cant see any power led on the device but I have checked the charger and lead which test ok. I am an electronics engineer so now that you have kindly provided power control circuit I can go a little deeper. I do think its a hardware failure but without diagrams its very difficult to logically work through these problems. I'll check out the voltages around this device and feed back findings. Many thanks for your help on this its much appreciated!!

Re: Ipad A1458 dead no functions

Thanks for diagram!!! I tested the charge on the batteries and its 4.2, volts. also I spoke to my granddaughter and discovered she had been using her iphone charger which is only rated at 1, amp so I thought it maybe that the charger wasn't up to the job to charge low batteries, however I managed to find a 5v 2.1 amp charger and placed it on charge again but its made no difference. I think my next step will be to remove screen on motherboard so that I can check if the voltage increases when charging cable connected just in case the charging port is defective. Lastly is transistor 8104, a common fault ? if so I doubt I have the equipment to replace it. Thanks

Power the ipad up with your bench power supply, this will let you know if the battery is at fault. Pointless removing the screen as there's obviously no voltage even reaching there at the moment. Back to basics mate, check those voltages.
