my father in laws ipad has a black screen after he done an update through iTunes. I have tried pressing the sleep/wake button countless times, tried it connected to iTunes. it seems to communicate with iTunes and restores etc. you can see the backlight flashing on and off. now and again you see a part of the screen that has lots of different coloured lines. like a damaged lcd. the screens aint damaged. its got corrupt somehow. does anyone have any ideas. he just bought this second hand about 2 weeks ago.

after a few choice slaps and a couple of drop tests. I've went from a black screen to this.DSCF7068.JPG

Try to restore your ios
First: Put the device into DFU mode.

DFU MODE STEPS

  1. Hold the Power Button (3 secs)
  2. Continue holding the power button and also hold the home button (15 secs)
  3. Release the power button while continuing to hold the home button (10 secs)
  4. Your device should prompt with the "Connect to iTunes Screen"

Second: Plug it into your computer and open iTunes. It will either prompt to restore and up date or you can manually restore using the following steps.

IOS Restore Steps
Before restoring:
[h=4]Restoring your iOS device[/h]
  1. Connect your device to your computer.
  2. Select your iPad when it appears in iTunes. Select the Summary tab, and click the Restore button.
  3. Click Restore.
  4. After a restore, the iOS device restarts. You should then see "Slide to set up". Follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant.

my father in law got his money back. he only found out about getting his money back the night after I spent taking the ipad apart looking for loose connections.
I think it was a backlight problem because at one point the screen went blue and the lines that you seen in the picture weren't there.
