hi guys,
just tried to sync my iphone and windows and it tells me "this iphone can not be used because the apple mobile devise service is not started"
i have followed a troubleshooting guide but to no avail.
i have tried to restart by going into start/services/services local/apple mobile devise.
i have stopped and restarted and still will not be recognised in itunes
the computer knows the iphone is connected because in my computer it shows the devise
i have unistalled and reinstalled itunes and still the same
any advise guys please, thanks in advance.

i have totally deinstalled/reinstalled itunes
when connecting iphone again windows tells me that it can not read the devise properly so i have to click ok,then again it says "this iphone can not be used because the apple mobile devise service is not started"
so i am, thinking there might be a problem with the iphone?
thanks in advance guys.

that error message seems more like a windows message, it's not starting the service on the PC - rather than the iphone itself.

Easy way to check, connect to a different PC and see what it does - that will narrow it down.

I'm sure i had a similar problem a while ago and rebuilt my PC as it wasn't syncing properly.

hi,thanks for your input.
i have just try to connect to my other pc
"itunes could not connect to this iphone because an unknown error occurred (0xe8000065)"
that is what it says.
it was working fine a few days ago,i do not think i have done anything wrong and it is not jailbroken yet

i have just put an ipod on the pc with the same lead and the pc picks it up and would sync it
is there a way of resetting the iphone?

got the iphone back after trying 3 different laptops
unfortunatley it has been wiped back to factory reset
when i try and connect it back to my original pc which has all the backup on it for itunes it says
"itunes could not connect to this computer because an unknown error occured (oxe8000065)
thats where i am at now guys, but at least i have not bricked the phone
how can i get my app back on?
why will my pc not recognise the phone?
windows tells me that the apple mobile devise has stopped working, when i go into services and turn it back on it does not do anything
any advise/suggestions very welcome as i am now at the mercy of the forum or paying apple for their support
thanks again.

as i said, it's the PC, it's not starting the service. i couldn't get it to uninstall/re-install the service properly - so i flattened my PC and started again.

If they're legit apps, they'll be available to download from any PC / the iphone itself.

if it's the backups you want, they too can be moved to a different PC and restored.

On the PC you have it working on, copy the following folders from the PC that aint working to the one that is working:-

On Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
On Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

You should be then able to restore from a the backup you have copied over.

thanks for your input peeps,
if i am getting this right all my apps from apple are safe?
i can download them again from itunes when i can sync and connect to itunes?
what advise have you got as to getting itunes working again?
i get the error (oxe8000065) on both vista sp2 and windows7
i recovered the iphone from a laptop using vista that had never been synced with the iphone
what do i have to do to get the 2 computers that will not sync with itunes, one is only 2 weeks old using windows 7 home premium
the other which i originally started itunes up with is vista sp2
thanks again for your inputs as without them i would be goosed!

just to update the thread guys.
after foooking and farting around with cable/usb ports restarting windows/iphone finally got to sync iphone with itunes and restore my apps etc
seems there is some sort of issue atm with windows and apple regarding the errors i reported
anyway got mine back at last.

final update
finally got to the bottom of the problem.
i have foxy proxy video utility installed on pc and that was stopping itunes from syncing
uninstalled proxy video(do not need it on pc) and itunes fully
reinstalled itunes and syncs perfectly everytime.
thanks to manofscience and mairyhinge for your inputs.

Glad you got it sorted, thanks for the updates - they may prove useful for others.
