My daughter has very recently moved house and has a one year old baby and 6 month old boxer puppy.

Ever since she's had the pup, the darn thing regularly poos inside the house. Needless to say, this could have dangerous implications for the baby.

The dog gets put out into the garden early morning but refuses to poo outside and waits to do it till she's indoors. My daughter's at the end of her tether with the dog having tried a nice but firm approach for some time. Recently, however, the pup's had a smack when she does it and immediately gets put outside. This has made no difference whatsoever.

Anybody got any ideas?

Reward and praise all the way. No smacking imo. take the dog out and keep it out , even if that means you stay with it till it does a shit. it will eventually get the idea, reward and praise. keep doing it and the dog will get the hang of it. There will be accidents but it will eventually get there

Thanks to you both for your suggestions, I've passed your ideas on to my daughter and so...no more smacks!

The poor little dog, or bitch should say, was neutered yesterday. the cost being a staggering £163.

you can get puppy pads that they poo wee on but takeing it outside to have a poo to train it to do outside

Patience is the key here remember puppies are just like babies they need to be taught how to do things. Dont punish the dog. if it becomes a problem re home the dog. Babies and puppies are not a good idea to mix as both are hard work imho.

have to echo what others have said reward not punish :)
punishment will just set the process further back

as soon as you get up in the morning take pup outside( I know you do) and WAIT until pup does what he has to do, I know its boring and she has a baby too but be patient it will work :)
do this a few hours later too then again after any meal
as soon as she see pup start to squat pick it up and take it outside

praise, praise, praise, treats and make a fuss :)

this will help later on too
with all my dogs I've associated a word with going to the toilet, it works :) as soon as they start doing a wee or poo say the word over and over again (whatever word you choose) I was told "Quick" at training classes lol
once they are used to that word all you have to say is "Quick" and they will be up and ready to go do there stuff lol handy for bed time or if you need to go out etc

I had 2 Boxers about 15 years ago, lovely dogs but are full of energy lol she has her work cut out mate but very rewarding as they are affectionate too :)

Excellent advice @Rat it's funny you should say the word Quick and it works for your dog. We ask our dogs if they need a wee and they both run to the door ready to be let out and they bark when they want to be let in. Dogs are very intelligent and learn very fast. Patience is very important and the rewards are endless pleasure. :)

they said use the word Quick as its something you can say in the garden without sounding too mad lol
our rescue dog we have now knows the word Wee Wee (previous owners word lol)
but as soon as I say Wee Wee he is up like a shot and knows what he has to do :) makes life so much easier dont it

Try taking the dog for a walk!! A dog of that breed needs regular exercise, not "dumped" (excuse the pun) in the garden in the morning to do its business.

My own dog is a 8 year old Staffie, my third one, and he and the little Boxer get on like a house on fire. With just one silly exception, I can honestly say that he's never had a smack in his life.

As miggy said, it's not a very good idea to mix babies and puppies. I don't think my daughter was thinking straight when she got the pup but I can tell you that it's loved every bit as much as the baby despite the current problem. It's strange, mind you, that it never pees in the house, only poos.

@Rat and @miggy made me smile, we also say "Quick" with our dog who was a rescue dog and definitely not a pup, but it works for us as well.
It must be a canine magic word...................a bit like Abracadabra
