Improve fire kids tablet

I bought my son the fire amazon kids tablet two years back but he has outgrown the kids side of it. Im hoping to possibly get some sort of custom rom onto it and get him a few games like minecraft without going through amazon store. How do I do this..

you can put the play store on it, i did it on my sons and he has pokemon go on it.
