Hi all

A sad day for me, during a visit to a play centre with the kids I accidently knocked my Samsung galaxy s6 against the edge of a quarter filled jug or squash (weak mostly water).

Most of the phone went into the squash :( I got it straight out and noticed it was switched off (short circuit?) well I dried what I could and used the toilet dryer, not directly underneath.

On the way home I stopped at a phone shop and explained what happened they told me to try putting it in the bowl of rice for 24/48h hours then make sure its dry and put it on charge for a solid 12 hours if that does nothing then bring it back and they can do a main board clean with some solution for £35.

When I got home I put it in rice directly in the sunlight, like I was told, it has now been 24 hours and I have just plugged it in, I had the following come up on the screen (see pictures), it first came on with 97% I just had to see if it would turn on so I held the power button then the charge icon came on and off but no boot up I then let go of the power button and a charge of 26% came up.

The problem is I have no insurance for it, I have only had it 3 months and it’s under warranty, if its opened the warranty is invalid. I have a claims court case starting soon and being an idiot some screenshots I never backed up, I know I am an idiot

Any suggestions?

Thanks

too be honest , i f you have no insurance im afraid its bad news, normal samsung warranty doesnt cover liquid damage to the phone, even if you have dried it out, samsung can detect its been liquid damaged..if you had insuranace accidental damage may have been covered...do you have home insurance and contents perhaps that covers accidental damage like this worth checking. If not i suppose you could try the main board clean from the shop..sorry but sounds bad im afraid..

try clean phone in alcohol an try different battery see what happen ..... it may work

Update

With the Samsung s6 it’s all sealed so you can’t really get access to the battery, I have seen videos on how to open it but decided to take it to a local phone repair shop (only had it since june).

They charged £25 for open it clean the main board with some form of alcohol and check connections. Well a few hours later I went back and it was working BUT later that day I decided to try a game on it and my screen was upside down. After checking my gallery of photos I noticed it was not rotating to landscape but was turning the opposite side.

I did some research and found compass software which I compared to another phone and they were pointing in different angles. I deleted the cache files in the boot up menu system (volume up/home/power switch together.

I then went on the phonebook and typed *#0*# to get into a config menu system, I pressed the sensor tab and had to configure my phone at the 3 axis, once the compass sign went blue it was set up but comparing the degrees on the compass they were still slightly different.

To be honest I have taken a chance now and took it to a Samsung shop and it has been sent off for repair, the people who cleaned the board told be this morning that it is spotless and they will not know it’s been opened. I’m praying I can get away with it otherwise I’m stuck with a faulty rotation screen.

Forgot to mention i did back every thing up after picking up from the repair shop (thank god) and did a full factory reset before i took it to samsung shop, they did look at the phone in the shop and suggested its a faulty gyro and the phone was in great condition (no marks).

Don't want to piss on your parade mate but they will be able to tell it has been water damaged. There is some kind of indicator inside phones that detect water damage

Are the S6 not waterproof like the S5's are ?

Depends which version
Samsung has unveiled a new durable and waterproof version of its flagship S6 smartphone.
The phone — launched as the world waited for Apple’s big Worldwide Developers Conference event — features all of the insides of the normal S6, but packs them into a much more robust and slightly bigger body. The phone is dustproof and water-resistant, features a special activity app, and is “built for adventure”, according to Samsung.

I think you are right Rat.....am sure i read somewhere that the s6 is suppoesed to be watter proof. on the other hand i have dissasembled a number of phones and sometimes if your lucky the rice bag will work but ONLY if the device isnt powered on. The 1st component that goes to water damage is the screen, second is the battery as it swells up. The phone needs to be stripped and washed in an alcholic solution ( main board ). But this is depending on how lucky you are as i have only managed to save 2 devices out of say 10.

Water proof and water resistant are different things. It's like the ip ratings of external junction boxes and cameras. Water resistant means lite water. Being submersed in water is much different.

Can be submerged for upto 30 minutes

Should be honoured in a warranty then if they claim that.

Just a heads up for the future.

If you have a dropbox account (if not get one they are free) or a onedrive account (microsoft) then you install it on your android phone, your pictures & videos can be backed up automatically as soon as you get a wi-fi signal. This saves a lot of hassle.

Just got myself a Galaxy S6 and it came with 50gb of extra free space on onedrive, but I don't know when that offer started.

This topic is about water damage and i dont see the revelance to your post Captin....it would be better posted in the general mobile help on its own rather than mixed in with another and as good as your help is no one will see it unless they are looking at water damage posts

I would say Captain is suggesting that if the pictures/videos are backed up and the phone is rendered useless the pictures/videos are safe ;)

Sorry Captin...Rat....i suppose there is a relevance
