NEED help with why my htc desire 610 wont charge

Can anyone help me please I have an issue with my htc desire 610, I dropped it in some water awhile ago, the screen wouldn't come on but my pc picked it up wen plugged into the usb port, so I ordered a new battery my fone did come on wen plugged into the charger but still will not charger and a constant red light is flashing. cant seem to find out why or wot the course is.

When you state that it came on when plugged into a USB cable, do you mean the screen came alive also? Can you make a call or SMS? Try popping the battery out & cleaning the terminals on both battery & phone, they may be DIS/US now, use some fine wet & dry paper or an emery cloth...
