Be careful when using custom firmwares and roms!

Just had to unbrick my Xperia Ray because of a faulty rom overwrite (mostly because of lack of knowledge on my part!).

Sometimes it's better to just stick with stock Android firmware!

The people that write guides over on XDA need to write more for beginners and less on assumed knowledge. Ugh!

It's not really a beginner friendly site IMO, they kind of expect you to read hundreds of crap posts to find answers, then you end up more confused coz someone says this and someone else says different so you end up asking anyway

So true. Information on XDA is usually scattered across numerous threads making things more difficult to figure out. And you're right, seanicca, about the various rashomon-like points of view. Doesn't help!
 
Either use a trustworthy Youtube video for help with a tutorial showing it works, or use a trusted dev's ROMS like CWM
 
I find that some YouTube vids are worse because the people in the vids do not list the sources they use for the apps. Would rather go to XDA.
