Received the new maps update this morning and all I can say is the best just got better. I wouldn't lie, I am a big fan of maps and its probably one of my most used apps since I got the nexus 4. Used it on the way to work this morning and just a few of the changes I noticed,

- slide out menu, which seems to be more common
- traffic is displayed for all roads in navigation, not just the one you selected
- Re-route mid route based on traffic, this was a manual process before
- better integration with google+
- Better use of tablet's bigger screen

Biggest change they are pushing is the 'explore' feature which suggests different items along your route using google's own vast search engine

Both, AFAIK the online version is by invite only at the moment but you only need to visit maps webpage, log on with a gmail account and request access.

Mobile version has started to be rolled out to android devices with jelly bean and will be released for iOS soon.
