My phone keeps switching off, it is purley random.
Any ideas?

Do i need a new battery?

have you tried resetting the phone back to stock on the off chance the software maybe corrupted.

back everything up before you do this 1st, that would be my 1st thing to do.

has your phone been rooted? as big-hol says, it could be corrupted

Yes, i rooted my phone when i got it 2 years ago, however, i had a new battery from ebay, which has been ok for a few months....until i started having probs.

I have just bought a new genuine battery and ran it all day today and the phone has been fine....?

I guess i will wait and see how it goes.

was the battery you got one of the cheap gold batteries with extended capacity?
if so loads of issues with them (i nearly bought one, but researched first)

yes indeed. Never did any research tho.
It was good for about 8 months, with no probs, but since i have changed back to genuine samsung, no problems.

this problem happens to me as well. I have the original battery in.

Try the factory reset as said before. Take out the battery, place it back in, then hold the 'volume up', 'home' and 'power button' at the same time until it boots up. As said before, back up everything before doing this.
