Hi, Anyone know if a custom rom can installed on a maxtab C8 tablet? Its currently on 4.1.1 android.

If not, any tips on how to install google play store on it? It comes with its own version of apps store SlideMe Market which is limited compared to play store. Thanks

I managed to Root the tablet now. Adb commands work fine but Fastboot does not work at all and I'm unable to fastboot a recovery image. Tried clockworkmod but the device is not supported. Is there another way to load a custom rom with having to install a recovery img first?

I've tried contacting maxell support about windows 8 drivers but they claim all their developers are attending a conference. I've tried google naked drivers but still unable to get fastboot to recognise any devices. Anyone manage to load a custom rom without using fastboot on a generic tablet? Thanks

I did try but the google fix did not work for me. I was hoping to load a custom rom and then hopefully google play would work on that one.

Not sure if this will work but I just put Google play on a Disgo 7000 (it was running 2.3 though). Extract the files from rar and transfer to tablet then install the 4 files they are numbered to help, the first 3 gave a not installed message but the market is on it and working. When I set up an account for him and looked on the store via the tab not a lot showed up, he only really wanted tvcatchup, but when I looked via laptop I found it and it installed and worked.

Thanks. Just tried but no luck. Files 1, 3, 4 all said failed to install. Play store is showing and when first clicked it took me through the setup to link to my account but when I try to launch it it says "Unfortunately, Google Play store has stopped". I've rebooted and still get the same. On my laptop, its showing the Unknown MID. It lets me try to install over the web OK but nothing happens on the tablet.

Same message as me but store worked OK. Take a look over on slatedroid they seem to have more info on some of the lesser known tabs

I've just rebooted tablet again and now its in an endless loop "unfortunately setup wizard has stopped" You press OK and then it pops up again. I can access the settings options but unable to access anything else.

Did you have option of setup or launcher on first reboot? If so try and clear defaults in settings then try launcher

I rebooted again and now it allows me to click OK and then pops up immediately again. I'm unable to get into any settings or apps. The pop up appears as soon as it boots up.

In case anyone else has same problem, found solution. Mount system using Adb and then remove the SetupWizard.apk file using
rm SetupWizard.apk

I can now get back to the home page.

glad you got it sorted. I'm stumped how to get store working but hope you work it out

Another possible fix for the play store

Code:
You don't have permission to view the code content. Log in or register now.

Its for a different tablet but he reckons it will work with any cortex A8 tablet

Thanks. I used that one a few weeks back and managed to install the ADB drivers but no luck with play store. If I could just get fastboot to recognise the device, I could then install any custom rom and I would be a happy man :)

Is it a windows problem or a device problem do you reckon?

I think its the tablet. My HTC One X works fine and loaded custom roms many times. The adb devices lists the tablet but fastboot devices or any fastboot cmd doesnt do anything.

I've tried on Windows 7 and Windows 8.
