Sadly my beloved desire hd failed on me, looks like mainboard has finally said goodbye - she has been given me loads of connectivity problems for a while especially with bt and wifi. Constant freeze ups, and finally one last freeze up and failure to boot, even with abd fastboot demon :(

So i went down to carphone warehouse with the mind to purchase a sensation or a sgs2.
I was taken in by the htc one x - i had already read loads on the phone and was put off by the lack of sd card slot, non replaceable battery, and micro sim card.
Im personally glad i was able to play with one in the store, ive already played with the samsung galaxy s2, whilst i liked the phone i hated touch wiz - ive removed all trace of it on my galaxy tab but really love the sense look and feel.
I then played with the sensation which tbh felt excatly like my old desire hd just a little bit quicker, but looked ancient next to the one x - it really didnt feel like i was upgrading from my 2 year old phone.

After a big ouch i parted with my cash and left the store with my sim free one x (i wont have contracts anymore - too expensive - you end up paying way over the odds for the phone).
WHat can i say, what a blooming good phone, the four (5) cores make android a real pleasure, ics is so well thought out and pretty. Ive had three people now with iphones look at the phone and said that the experiace on the one x is 100x better than the iphone.
Side by side with the samsung galaxy s2 the screen on the htc out shines the sammy, the colours are so vibrant and clear, i always thought the samsung s2 wouldnt ever be beaten in screen quality and now ive been proven wrong.
Sense is a nicer affair as well, there seems to be a lot less bloat than previous versions, and it seems to run fluidly now - where on my desire hd it would stop and think about things every now and then.

The camera is amazing, instant open and you can also take a pic instantly as well, the thing that really impresses me with the camera is the ablity to record video and also take still shots at the same time - really unique for a phone and will come in handy especially when the wife wants me to film the kids birthday and expects me to also take pics at the same time.

One major problem which looks like its due to be fixed with a firmware update is the battery, i nuked the battery in under 7 hours, but to be fair that was the first charge and htc have already reconised there is a problem with the battery life, the very reason why i originally was unhappy with a non removable cell.

Another bug bear i have is video playback, htc says that its capable of playing divx and xvid out of the box, well i cannot for the life of me get avi contained divx and xvid to play, mobo sorts this problem out but it should do it out of the box, im hoping an future update solves this.

If your looking at getting anew phone and have the samsung galaxy s2 on the radar - spend that few quid extra and at least have a look at the one x, its a much better phone, this may change when the s3 comes out though, but then the new htc one x2 might come along and so on....

It does look the mutts nuts mate, I was a fan of android but I ended up selling my desire and getting an iPhone and I love it but this could be the phone to send me back to android begging forgiveness :)

My brother picked one of these up as well and came from desire himself. seems quite impressed with it.
He did send me a video saying it could play 6 hidef movies at once or something.

I have a sgs2. Love it its a top phone:)

yes while it is nice its not really fair to compaire with the samsung s2 as the s3 should be out soonish

but in saying that i was close to jumping ship myself from the s2 today...

tbh there is little point in upgrading from a s2, the s2 is a damn fine phone that has stood well, the one x is quiet a bit better, but not that much of an improovement to upgrade from a s2.
If you had a s1 or dhd or sensation i would say upgrade, but defo not from the model you currently have.
To me when the sensation hit the shelves it wasnt enough for me to give up my dhd (rip) - i feel the same between these two models.

three things though,

the camera, its much better if you want a quicker point and shoot with little delay (i do like a good camera on my phone since having our kid)

the sound if you like music it is giving out great sound with the speaker underneath

lastly quadcore beats dual core :)

....why havent i bought one yet...not sure on that one

Well this has really got me thinking now. I was going to go for the sensation XL, now I am wondering.

Other than the camera what are the actual quality of the videos and photos like? Are the pics on the one a better end product than the xl

one word - fantastic!!!!
the camera is super fast, and the picture quality is excellent, even in low lights it performs very well.
Video play back is fantastic, ive got to try some hd movies though (as i grab for my phone).
I ran my phone today watching a number of movies, i had the hardware acceleration turn on so it used the gpu insted of software based (main cpu) and the battery life was pretty good, the picture was perfect!.
You will need a good app like mobo or my peferred player dice to take advantage as htc for some reason wont play avi in thier native program (it does list divx and xvid but wont utilise the avi container)
If your thinking of getting the sensation, dont get the one x its far superiour than the sensation.
The one thing you wont get with the one x is the beats headphones, for me thats not a problem as i think they sound very muddy in comparison to my shures se535.
i think the sensation xl is around £100 cheaper - for that it is an older phone, the camera is the same as the desire hd and i know they didnt do a very good job on that. But you do get beats phones, removable battery.
The sensation xl has only 16gb on board with no sd card slot - the one has 32gb on board (mine says 25.24gb space) and also no sd slot .
You will also get a lot of software updates on the one x but the sensation may get ics and that may be the final one... we wait and see.
One thing i forgot to mention is the sim card, you will need to cut it down, i done mine with a pair of scissors, to keep things slim htc decided to go with the micro sim card.

i use rockplayer to play media files, it plays all i chuck at it

i wont use rock player now out of principle, i had it on my old milestone - i payed the small fortune for the licence, then when i got the desire hd i asked him to transferre the licence and never got a reply from my 20+ emails asking this.
it did work nice from memory, have they removed that annoying "R" in the left hand corner?

Whats the best price seen for the htc one x?

Thanks

just got a one x

very nice phone, will take a while getting used to the size. its much bigger than my htc desire

May 3rd SG3 release date, i have read, well it is being Unveiled, not sure when the general public release date is?
