Right, just bought me self a Samsung galaxy S, Thanks to BIG-HOL for all the advice, but it ain't fair me badgering him via PM for help (I try and point people to the forum as PM's isn't the way to go).

So, If I can recap, I know I need to "root" it before I apply a mod, Is it as easy as what it says on the tin with the "Root any Android phone with Super One-Click App"

It then gets me onto the next question, what firmware do I use? I have a san fran at the moment and that's "rooted" with Cyanogen mod, all works well, Now I was going to go and post over at XDA forum, they have a shed load of stuff but your hit in the face with a "I am a total n00b" and use the search function, So I'm a little reluctant to post asking a question as I'd probs be shot down in flames and arrested or some thing.

So if you could go easy on me chaps that be appreciated.

Thanks in advance, and thanks "BIG-HOL and BRO" so far.!

I don't know specifically with the galaxy s as i only had a htc desire but what I think your going to need to search for is 'how to root and install clockwork recovery mod'

Clockwork recovery is basically a custom bootloader with lots of options for backing up and restoring your rom and allows you to easily install a custom rom

As for roms to try I used to just look at the highest rated threads on xda for custom roms and try people's out, trawl through the comments to see if there's any bugs etc

Re: Samsung Galaxy S and ROOTING / MOD? Which one do I use?

ah thanks, so there's 3 stages, rooting the phone, then installing clockwork mod to be able to then add a rom to the phone? take it you use clockwork mod to install a rom, which in the san fran case is the cyanogen mod?

Yes m8 you need to root the phone to be able to install clockwork mod or xrecovery, this then in turn allows you to install a custom rom

Go to SamFirmware.com

Everything you need should be there.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S and ROOTING / MOD? Which one do I use?

cheers all, that's what I couldn't understand, the 3 links, so root, clockwork mod (or similar) which the gives you the ability to install a rom......right, just have to wait for the postman......appreciated on the responses!

Top Dolla!

Re: Samsung Galaxy S and ROOTING / MOD? Which one do I use?

get signed up at samfirmware mate as it has every stock rom you could want incase you need to revert back to stock, and if ya wanting to try different roms its always best to go back to stock before flashing a new rom, keeps it all clean and minimizes troubles along the way! they have some good tuts on flashing using odin aswell, but dont think it has any custom roms on there as far as im aware anyway, could be wrong.. xda is ya best place for custom roms, i used darkys rom think it was 10.2 extreme edition, probably on 13 or something now, lol... you'll sharp get the hang of it mate once ya 1st do it!

Re: Samsung Galaxy S and ROOTING / MOD? Which one do I use?

To be honest I'll be happy with the same mod that's on as the san fran that I have, doesn't seem to be any problems with it, now I got my head around it I think it should be ok (watch this space!) I've read and after the phone is rooted then it's pretty easy to put clockworkmod and then a rom on it, it's just daunting when you see all the warnings and this will only work on blah, blah, it's like all double Dutch, Now I know what it's like when people post in the 360 section, (not that I know a great deal about the 360's..lol)

So yeah, thanks again, appreciated.

Looking forward to getting it now........

keep us posted on it bud!

Tell you what get the phone rooted then download rom manager from the market, in the app there's an option to install clockwork mod plus you can easily backup your current rom so you can reflash and have it as you were, it also let's you download and install other roms, it's a must have for a rooted phone :)

Re: Samsung Galaxy S and ROOTING / MOD? Which one do I use?

cool, have it on the san fran now and I'm just looking at it.

(I took the plunge the other day and clicked on "flash clockwork mod" to this san fran, you might remember me posting the other day, I'd deleted the contents of the memory card, so with the san fran being rooted then the clockwork mod has just installed it's self again, happy days, now when I go to "download Rom" then it shows me all the roms to download! )

I can see how the process works, I think, It's all about rooting the phone in the 1st place to be able to open up the phone to allow the mods to be installed.

Then download Rom manager and install clockwork mod, then download the firmware I want on. (It looks as though it sorts the CFW for ya, as they all say blade at the minute which is the san fran, so I assume that they'll say samsung etc. when I get to that stage on it)

Think that's it.

Cheers

Afternoon, you new I'd be checking back in didn't ya! lol.......

OK phones here....

right I have enabled usb debudding and have installed the drivers on the laptop and all is good in control panel.

So fired up "super on click" and have left all the settings the way it is, and then clicked on "Root" and get the following messages.

(I've noticed that under phone settings actually on the phone it says Build Number - Gingerbread.xxjvt) is this phone all ready been done?

Cheers chaps.

If you download titanium backup and open it up it needs root so will tell if you already have it or not

Re: Samsung Galaxy S and ROOTING / MOD? Which one do I use?

Thanks mate, ok downloaded it and have the following :

Error: Sorry I could not acquire root privileges. This application will *not* work! Please verify that your ROM is rooted and includes BusyBox, and try again.

Guess it's not rooted like, I notice there was no "super user" in the menu settings as well...

What you think next then?

Cheers

Never used super one click. Can you not flash cf-root on a galaxy S like on the S2?

I have no idea mate, I think one of the chaps suggested having a look at z4root as well, I thought super one click would have worked like, would I need a memory card in the phone even though it tells you to make sure that you haven't got it mounted?

Cheers

Re: Samsung Galaxy S and ROOTING / MOD? Which one do I use?

Here you go dibbs, providing you have the adb drivers installed, then install this and run it,
click the big "Root" button and you should be sorted

This only roots the phone though where as seanicca's method will also install clockwork mod 3

Re: Samsung Galaxy S and ROOTING / MOD? Which one do I use?

Thanks chaps, What are the "ADB" drivers mate?

It's all getting a little bit confusing...I've read most of that thread that "seanicca" posted and it states it's for "noobs" (like me) but then it goes onto say lots of warnings and do's and don't's"

Any way I'll give it a go what you posted and see what it does, if you think I'm good to go?

On the phone I have the following.

model number - GT-I9000
Firmware Version - 2.3.5
Baseband Version - I9000XXJVT
Kernal Version - 2.6.35.7-I9000XXJVT-CL617736 SE.INFRA@SEI-22 #2
Build number - GINGERBREAD.XXJVT
