I had just finished editing the channel list on said receiver and wanted to backup to USB. I did the 'dump' OK, and then went to save just the channel list to the same USB stick. At about 50% I started to see strange patterns appear behind the menu screen and the box froze. I left it for a good 20 minutes or so but it just sat there. So I pulled the power, now the box won't come on. I just get 'ON' (in capitals) on the LED display, nothing on the screen.
After resurrecting an old XP laptop with serial port (!) I tried to re-flash it with older firmware just to get it going, but kept getting communication error reports.
Box was running very recent MCAS 2.3.65.
Now my questions are: (1) Why did it happen? And (2) can the firmware be copied from a healthy (identical) box just by connecting the serial ports to one another- like we used to do on older boxes with a null modem cable?

TIA, TT.
