Hi,

Can anyone help, I've just flashed my Alien 2+ box with the ViX4E2PROJECT Amiko Alien2+ Build 007.

The box rebooted and is now stuck with the 'boot'.

I didn't take a backup before flashing (doh), can anyone help in getting my box back?

Sounds like (as you probably guessed) it's not flashed correctly for whatever reason. It should be very easy to get back up and running again by simply re-flash again which can be done through using the direct from USB method (works fine but is more picky on brands of USB sticks - Kingston 4GB or less is ideal) or using the Spark E2 Upgrade plugin which would be my suggestion... So boot to Spark, download the 007 image again (in case it was corrupt for any reason) and go from there using the E2 upgrade plugin, once it's flashed boot back to Enigma2 and you should be on the installation wizard in no time.

Do I need to unzip the file first, as it says 'cannot find kernel file'?

If you are flashing through Spark or the direct USB method then yes you will need to extract the enigma2 folder from the zip file to a USB stick.

I'm attaching a guide I created some time back, it should still be perfectly up to date in terms of firmware flashing, nothings changed in that respect, I will also attach the Spark Mini Plugins pack it mentions in case you don't have that for some reason though sounds like you've got that bit from what you say...

Ty Lavaman, that's done the job.

Now I just need to know where to put my OSCAM file and download a new channel list?

Head to the plugin menu and download OScam ymod which is at Menu > Plugins > Download Plugins (green) > Softcams > OScam ymod > yes - I suggest this version of OScam as this one has all the configuration files pre-configured for you.

Once downloaded now activate the softcam in the menu at Menu > Setup > SoftCam / CI > Softcam Manager > Enable Startup (blue) (so it will auto start after a reboot) then OK so it actually starts OScam right now. Once done you can now exit this menu and you will be able to access the OScam Webif at http://ip-address-of-receiver:8888 and can change the various settings from here.

I personally would recommend using the webif to change the settings you want rather than physically swap the oscam files over as this can lead to problems, but if you'd prefer to do that or are more confident doing it that way then you can FTP into the receiver and you'll find all the OScam ymod configuration files in /etc/tuxbox/config/

Default FTP username is root and password is blank (i.e. no password).

For channel settings personally I would always use AutoBouquetMaker if it's for 28.2 East, depends what you want you want to use this with of course, but if you want to use AutoBouquetMaker then first make sure your tuners are configured correctly at Menu > Setup > Service searching > Tuner configuration - It's important to get this right especially with the two DVB-S/S2 tuners, so if you have say only a single 28.2 East feed then set the tuner up as that and not as though you have two feeds, if it is really two feeds than that's fine, set it up as that - this becomes important to get right later on for using AutoBouquetMaker and CrossEPG.

Once you are happy the tuners are configured correctly you can then head to AutoBouquetMaker at enu > Setup > Service searching > AutoBouquetMaker and first choose your Provider and region, then green to OK before going to Start scan. If all has been configured correctly then is a minute or two you if should indicate it's found the channel settings and once complete it will return to its own menu At this point you can exit this and all menus then when back to normal TV press the up arrown on the remote control, press green for Satellites then blue for Favourites and if all went to plan you should have all your 28.2 East bouquets scanned in as per the region you chose and be ready to view!

Ty Lavaman, Box up and running now......well it was, I've now put the box in RADIO and can't get it back in tv mode.

While on a radio channel press and hold the TV/RADIO button and it'll switch back to your TV favourites.

is there any issues with mgcamd and this image ??
cant seem to get it working ??

No specific issue, it's been tried and tested, however I would always recommend using OScam as this will allow for recording from one $ channel while watching another (reason enough and something Mgcamd won't do) and as important in many respects it is current and continually developed.

Installed mgcam from the menu (download plugins) put in newcamd file but nothing is clearing
Any ideas tips ??

Don't replace any files, simply edit the one that is provided with your details... But the best advice of all has already been given, switch to OScam, there really is no need to even consider Mgcamd then.

Mgcamd will be removed from the addons server soon to make sure users head down the OScam route, my idea being to try and give the best user experience with the minimum of setup, having extra softcams available (on SH4 based receivers, it's different on MIPS) other than OScam is really not helping with that so the best idea is I will remove Mgcamd to stop confusion and make the choice easier.

Go with OScam ymod from the addons server and not only will this work, it'll be largely pre configured for you and allow recording from one pay channel while watching another as well as supporting key files for those who still use them.

Yes he is correct use oscam not Mgcamd . You loose the ability to watch / watch and record two programs at the same time with Mgcamd but oscam is diffrerent. Ymod is good especially is using BISS/Softcam feeds.

i have only have a newcamd.list file how would i convert this to oscam ?

whats difference between the emu and ymod version of OScam AFAIK both support softcam keys for BISS/Irdeto2 channels

I have used both and couldn't see much difference between the 2
