hello everyone I have a amiko alien 2 running version 1 007 blue I want to upgrade my alien 2 to the latest image but don't want to loose my s$y channels is there anyway of making a backup of my channels so I don't loose my sub thank you

What I'd do first of all is make a complete backup of your existing image, this way worst comes to worst you can always flash this back again and be back to where you started.

So to do this first make sure you insert a USB stick in the receiver (FAT32 suggested) then go to MENU > Setup > ViX4E2PROJECT > Image Manager > New Backup (Green Button) > Yes (to confirm) - This will take a few minutes to complete and will show an indicator on screen as it goes along, don't worry if it seems to stick on a point for a while, this is normal, just leave it and it will complete and at the end will exit back to the previous menu. That's your backup complete, so remove this USB stick and keep it safe somewhere in case of ever wanting or needing to go back to it.

If you want to backup your softcam configuration then I would suggest doing this manually. Exactly what you backup will depend on the softcam you use, I would only suggest using OScam and chances are this is what you will be using anyway, so FTP into the receiver and backup the OScam config directory which you can find at /etc/tuxbox/config. Keep this safe now ready to restore later.

That should be that, you have a complete backup of the firmware and also a backup of your OScam configuration. So now flash the latest firmware (currently Version 2.0 006-blue+) and once it boots up configure it in the usual way to suit your needs. Then install OScam ymod (MENU > Plugins > Download plugins (Green Button) > Softcams > OScam ymod > Yes (to confirm) - Now FTP your config directory backup to the newly flashed image which goes back to the same place as before /etc/tuxbox/config and finally start the softcam with Softcam Manager Menu > Setup > SoftCam / CI > Softcam Manager > OScam ymod > Autostart (Blue button) and finally Start (Green Button) to start it right now.

Hope this helps point you in the right direction - It is possible to make backups and restore settings however because of the version of firmware you are on now and the one you will be changing to I would not advise this, hence making a few manual backups should do the trick and get you up to date and up and running again in no time!

thank you lavaman that's exactly what I needed just another quick question how do iknow if im using oscam as the box already came setup many thanks lavaman

If you head to Menu > Setup > SoftCam / CI > Softcam Manager it will list the softcams and indicate what is available and what is active.

hello lavaman under there it says oscam-ymod active if that means anything to you ? I just don't want to loose my channels many thanks lavaman

Yes, that means it is OScam ymod being used which is good news, so now you are ready to follow the above instructions and hopefully be up to date and back up and running before long - Just remember to do that backup before everything else so you can always go back to it if need be.
