Vix4 Amiko Alien2

I guess that's only one you can answer yourself and there is only one real way to find out... It sure does work though, I've spent the majority of my spare time working on this for the past few months and am pleased with the results. I've tried to keep it relatively like OpenViX it's based on (hence the similar sounding VIX4E2PROJECT name I chose) while at the same time adding one or two things many expect or like as standard with E2 that just were not there with OpenViX and removing a few things I think caused issues and so didn't want to be there.

It's all built by me on my own machines using the OE-Alliance as a base and my forks of E2 and core from OpenViX. It's still something that I'm teaching mysef as I go along and done as a hobby still on the whole though I must admit has a habit of eating in to your working day sometimes!

I've no idea exactly where it will all go but it is there for those that want to give it a try, for those that would rather not then no problem, it's always here if you change your mind.

I would make sure you try the latest 007-blue build though if you are going to give this a try. I didn't realise 007-blue wasn't posted on here already so I will post this up later when I'm back in front of one of my desktop machines.

Which is the best image for amiko alien 2 for enigma 2. Thanks

I have found the VIX 4 working great on my Alien 2 + trip no problems at all. It be nice if we could do on line updates and can we change the blue spinner? apart from that I'm well happy.
I was using OpenATV and I had nothing but trouble all the time the box would freeze all the time and have to switch it off!

i found you have to make a swop file to stop the box freezing i used 256mb mind i not using openatv as i found it not auto updateing so the channel list was always empty in the morning

Hyperion 4 or 4.5 is the best image .
I've tried them all and Hyperion is by far the most stable .
Vix and Openatv have great potential but unfortunately they are just too buggy at the moment.

What bugs have you found in ViX4E2, can you elaborate a little more please so I can a look into them?

When I tried it a while back ,on the Alien 2,it had a few issues when recording satellite and trying to watch terrestrial or vica versa ,you'd get no signal ,as if the tuner had timed out .
Only solution is to turn the power off and back on to get tuner working again.
Seems to be a common issue on HDMU,and Openatv too.

I thought the box in general seemed a bit sluggish using Vix too ,as if box was struggling to cope.

I did try Vix 007 on the Alien 1 last night though and was impressed with it ,very nice image and stable too, much better than Openatv.
Good work Lavaman
If only I could workout how to remap the red ,green and yellow buttons I would probably switch from Hyperion 4.5.

Yes the switching issue is a known one, to recreate the issue you would have to be using the triple tuner version of receiver and using two tuners at once in a specific way, it's probably one that 90% of users may never even come across but it is an acknowledged issue none the less. As you've found it's not image specific and this unfortunately is the key to the problem, it's believed the problem is in the SH4 drivers and therefore it would need to be Fulan that ultimately need to provide us with the help/updates on this one, not sure if or when that might be though, but we sit in hope. It's no massive issue, as I say the majority will probably never even come across this, but if and when I have access to a possible cure you can be sure that's one I'll take an interest in implementing.

I can understand the more enthusiast type might want to remap colour buttons and it's probably possible with multiquickbuttons but in all honesty it's not anything I'll be likely looking into myself anytime very soon, the main plan was a stable image first and foremost which is about there now but then concentrating on keeping addons and such up to date rather than new image releases (getting away from the re-flashing on what seems like every few days on some others), but that said that sure doesn't mean I have stopped development, I'm still enjoying it and if and when a new release is really needed that's what we'll have, it has taken up a bit more of my time than I was expecting though to be honest to get to where we are so while it's still very much all systems go it has had to take just a little more of a back seat while I catch up with all those other things I've been meaning to do for the past few months!

Glad you sound like you've enjoyed what you've seen in any case, on the whole the feedback I get is very positive which helps me keep my interest up. :)

Yeah it seems to be affecting alot of images although I dont think Hyperion is affected by it .
I havent encountered it so far.
I have Saorview here in Ireland so the terrestrial tuner is handy.
As you said ,its only an issue on the triple tuner .
A cure would be great though .

Yeah thats fair enough.
I figured out where the buttons for audio selection and a few other options were ,the F1,F2,F3 buttons so no need to remap the Red and Yellow buttons,I usually use them for audio and teletext.
The other buttons are perfect.

No worries Lavaman, keep up the good work, its pretty time consuming building these images and debugging them so I appreciate that.
The Aliens really are great boxes ,despite the criticism they get ,mostly by vested interests I believe.
The SD picture quality on them is superior to any Broadcom box I have used .
