Just wondered if anyone did 3D printing and could make a few of these?

I dont know what is included in the download file but im hoping to try get a few single switches to test out.

You would be better to use one of the many companies that offer 3D printing mate. They use state of the art machines and you can be assured of a quality job.
Relatively expensive for one off jobs but if you require more then it is cost effective.

I believe you just send them the file and they come back with a price. Those switches look a fairly simple construction. I never looked beyond the pictures, do they use contacts harvested from readily available cheap switches?

Oh is there such a service? Had no idea lol

used to be a 3d printing shop on my road, didnt last long reckon made no money

I've just downloaded the files. They seem easy to print.

The slicer says it should take around 18m of filament at a cost of around 80p and around 4 hours to print (on my printer anyways).

Unfortunately there is a lost of support material needed (which is waste) because of the way they need to be printed.

For the sake of durability and longevity I would use ABS plastic, or something similar, PLA is biodegradable and although is much easier to print than ABS, it doesn't last as long and is not as hard wearing.

I don't use ABS myself and the only filaments I have at the moment are very bright flurescent colours (orange, green and red)

The designer says he is going to be putting them on ebay soon, but I bet the chinese beat him to it as anything on thingyverse is fair game.

Shapedo is a site where people do 3dprinting jobs, so is alldp and shapeways. These may already be on there.

I haven't a clue about 3d printing always interested me but thought the cost would be too high... Bloody my ink jet cost me a bomb for years until I got a laser jet lol

I'm the designer of the switch cover and am astounded by the interest they've got!

The ebay thing hasn't happened yet as I need stock, people keep contacting me via thingiverse and ordering them so I never have any stock!

Happy to deal direct via thingiverse, I can produce various depths, cater for double switches, etc. If you measurements don't match any I have I can customise it for your needs. I'm about to send out my 90th cover with zero complaints.

I include the magnets, longer screws, and blanking plugs to cover the screws.

Contact via thingiverse is my preferred method so I'm not juggling multiple accounts!

Regards,

Chris

What filament are you using ABS or PLA? You don't mention it in the ebay listing.

ABS is good because you can use an acetone vapor method to smooth it and it normally comes out very good, hardly tell it's 3d printed and nice and shiny.
It's PLA, I've never really got decent results from ABS, and it stinks the house out (I have 3 printers!). I should add that to the auction. Not had any complaints about the PLA finish so far but I may experiment when the printers aren't going flat out.

You can still sand and spray the PLA, I'm working with someone right now who wants a specific, very specific, shade of grey who is going to do just that.

I've done quite a bit with ABS within the last week or so. Doesn't smell too bad IMO.

I've also used HIPS which is quite tough plus lots of PETG, both for when I want stuff for external use as PLA just disintegrates too fast outside.

I have been trying all sorts of filaments lately as I subscribed to the Maker Box.

Conductive filament was good fun, managed to make a battery box out of ABS with conductive inserts for the battery connections. No metal at all.

Wood filled filament stinks, but not in a bad way.

I'm just about to try printing a part in nylon, it's supposed to be a bitch to print with, we'll see.
