Microsoft tackles cracked Windows 7

Last number of years I have been using a legalised (but free) version of Windows XP - no cracks whatsoever. First time ever I bought a O/S, well paid the ridiculously high price of P&P (£17) for the free windows upgrade for my wife's lappy I got her last year.

I used Vista and hated the new interface.

I saw this and went into system security and turned off updates. 15 minutes later I remembered my W7 is legit...lol. Too many years of hooky copies.

I have a legit copy but it's on 3 machines and only 1 would let me put the serial number in (unlike other versions of windows), so I guess I'll turn off updates on the others. :)

my Win 7 on new desktop is legit, so no worries for me.
I had years of using hooky versions of XP, then decided to go Legit.
Bought XPmedia center for £45 a couple years back for the lappy as Vista was Crap ,buggy and far too unstable for my liking.
Other Desktop went legit on XP about 5 years ago.
I may have many cracked Aplications and hooky programs, but I for one will stay legal on the OS front, lol

Im trialling, sort of anyways, the windows 7 experience on my xp lappy. Found some good themes here. Waiting for my company to come out with Win 7. That is how I got my Win XP :)

Just trying out a hooky verrsion off 7 and first impressions are good

I've been running XP along with a duel boot of ubuntu (linux) which I've always been happy with but for the rest of the family and their laptops/netbooks I just stick with ubuntu

I can't afford serveral copies of windows 7, just ashame it can't be made more affordable.

Anyway... if my copy gets screwed them I'm back to xp & ubuntu which I'm quite happy with.........at least with ubuntu you don't have to keep worring about pacthes and security updates

so guess here enjoy while it lasts

In the meaintime linux is getting stronger out there and it's all free and the apps like openoffice are excellant :proud:

it's a nice OS. well worth it for free :0)

Im on a hooky version lol but im leaving my updates on. Will see what happens. Its taken all the updates since it first came out and the wga that I use is from day one when it got brought out.

If it goes, it goes and i will buy a copy but until then, this is just fine.

I don't think there's anything to worry about If I'm reading this report right, it will be self evident what this update is when it comes out, so you just don't take it, simples :proud:

Very true Dave and after a few searches in Google it seems MS were kinda forced into it from public pressure.
They just finished a legal battle about the Genuine Advantage Tool being regarded as spyware and the courts could not settle the argument.
The argument was the tool is included in "critical" updates and its clearly not and that it serves MS interests not the customer.

In many cases legit copys were classed as hooky and in one case it cost some business thousands of dollars and they took MS to court and won.

I will keep my eye open for it but you never know what the hell they bundle into updates.
I have mine set to notify but not download or install.

Hackers also found hidden reg keys which suggested a service pack due out soon for 7 and usually thats a good way to bundle spyware into updates like sp3 for xp...

update
A just noticed your post Jackel your right, ive even found myself saying hooky to the mrs today,, or was it hooker,, cant quite remember.lol
