Tonight ive setup a TM500 and a DM500clone with the same plugins and compared the 2 using the same tv, same scart lead, everything

3 big things stood out while doing this

the first was the sound. i was aware that the DM500clone (and my original) was a bit quieter than my 7020, 600 or 800, but as i was using the DM500 first, i had the telly set to volume level 40 and it was at a comfortable level. once the TM500 was connected, the sound was booming out of the tv, but it was booming out in a good way, it wasnt distorted or nothing, a nice clear, loud sound

the next thing i noticed was colours, if the picture is of a guys face, on my DM500clone, the stubble area looks a slight blue colour, pale browns look orange, light reds look lime green, and ive had a lighter bar across part of the screen for as long as i can remember with this tv, its an LCD set i was given that was dead, i fixed it and assumed this was the problem with the colours

i was wrong :)

reds are red again, trees are brown and the light bar across the top has gone, another massive improvement

the 3rd thing i noticed, and this was quite a big difference, is the speed at which it turns the motor, theres no denying, its a LOT faster than the DM500clone, ive also checked this out against my original DM500, 600 and 800 and i can only think its because it has a larger built in power supply that must be capable of delivering more current through the LNB lead

ive tested both as a client connecting to a server, and would say both are equal, but this is down to your choice of CAM software

ive tested both as a server with clients connecting via WAN and LAN using newcs, and again, they run the software without any problems

the UR image on the box is stable, in my view the only thing that lets it down is the actual UR blue panel being slightly out of date, a problem easily sorted by the UR team though, but.....

you can download a plugin from there that will allow you to access the nabilosat server, so the latest keys, settings are still available, even if not directly

i think this is going to be a receiver to introduce more people to linux set top boxes

Re: TM500 v DM500clone

Have to say im well impressed with the TM600 as well with quicker channel changes and a superior picture as well. All the plugins ive tried have worked well.
Its definitely superior to my eagle linux box.
All in all i think dm should be looking over there shoulders at these because they could take away a fair chunk of their market

Re: TM500 v DM500clone

would there be any chance you could make a few comparisons between your eagle box and your 600 m8? picture clarity, sound, zap times etc

Re: TM500 v DM500clone

Finding similar observations to yours m8.
Picture sharper sometime was fuzzy on the eagle at times and colour is a little more distinct.
Zap times and picture clearance times with cccam are faster
Dish moves faster which i assume is down to the better internal power supply.
Had a few motor "lock ups" with the eagle but none with the TM600 as of yet.
All my plugins that i used on the eagle are working on the TM.
The fact that it has an rf out is a massive bonus as i can now watch it upstairs and control it through my pyramid remote sender.
All in all well pleased with the 600 despite my password problem i can say im well delighted with this.

The new azbox way to go for cheap HD linux box with out meaning to dis Technomate as i have always used them think they missed the boat a bit should have made the 600hd then they would be onto a winner for sure...

I also think Technomate missed the boat. Bringing out something to fill an already flooded market isnt the best move they've made imo. Years ago they had someone in their organisation with vision, but it is obvious to me that they no longer have that, they simply follow. I'm not knocking these receivers as they do add a 'brand' to the cheap end of the market, so good for end users. I just think technomate have lost direction and thats why many more people buy alternative makes now. To me this is an irrelevant comparison anyway, since it compares the very latest offering from Technomate against years-old ceased product.

I wonder what the new DM500HD has in store for us.......
