They looked ok to me for a Xmas pressie. Only thing I did notice was that to play video it has to be in .amv (.mtv) format, but you get a convertor software with it.

They were on the website last night but they have changed since, but this is them - 4GB MP4 Player (8198)

Hi

Big problem with the Video play back.

I record video files off a Freeview usb stick, the recorded files are in mpeg format. The converter software that comes with the player then converts the video to MTV format at 320x240. Unfortunately it introduces a 1.5 second delay in the sound.

Apparently the MTV file format is prone to sound being out of sync with the video. The smaller the video resolution, eg 160 x 120 the is no sync problem but by the time you get up to 320x240 it becomes a real problem.

Have spent the last week downloading other MTV converter software. Most only convert to 160 x 120 max and are no good for the Tevion player. The others suffer from the same sync problem. It could be a hardware issue of the player.

The Tevion 8198 4gb MP4 player works well as an mp3 player and the video screen offers very good playback.

Have contacted Tevion they say they have no plans to upgrade the software or fix the sound sync video fault.

I am now thinking should I keep it just as a 4gb mp3 player or take it back and buy a video player that does not use the MTV video file format.

just converted 6 episode of the simpsons from avi to mtv with software that came with player and working fine put them on a 2 gig micro sd card that I got from aldi for £4.99

these type of mp4 players are really cheap on ebay (from china / hong kong) if u don't mind 10 days delviery.

The music player has very good sound, however I am disappointed with the software. I could not get the video conversion software to convert a .vob file, tech support online chat told me it must be my computer not having the correct codecs but as Windows Media player would play the file and every other bit of software was functioning I wonder if they have a problem with their application.

Putting a picture/photo on the player will not guarantee a thumbnail of the picture being displayed, if the photo/scan does not have a thumbnail you will need software to create it.

So nice little player let down by the software.

I eventually got it to convert vob files but I had to download a codec pack from ZDnet.

Pity they don't put together a decent help file.

On a similar note .... has anyone bought one of these cheap Chinese 3" Screen 16GB MP3 players from eBay ? eg. 16GB MP3 MP4 MP5 RMVB AVI Player/3.0" Touch/8GB TF Slot on eBay, also, iPod MP3 Players, Electronics (end time 02-Dec-08 23:28:00 GMT)

£44 sounds like a real bargain not to be missed !
