Ive been reading many posts and tuts and im completely lost with the amount of different jargon.
Ive been thru the ropes a few times with paces and sammys and i thought this would be a breeze especially since my job is working with computers, repairing and building.

But i dont know anymore.

I have the new 60gb model which i just got for the boy at xmas, after spending a fortune at xmas i cant really afford the games and well u guessed it im going to mod it.

I seem to have gathered that its the liteon drive thats in this model.
Can i take it i have to read the liteon, subtract a key, get a new dvd drive (not sure what kind though) flash the new drive with the key and reinstall.

Read a tut about this abgx360_v0.9.4_setup which i havent found yet, is this needed.

Also read in a post that this is best Firmware_Toolbox_v4.8 except i can only find Firmware_Toolbox_v4.7.

Also needed DVDKey software by Geremia, i have found this.

Also needed A Hex editor,i have found this.

A MAX3232 based RS232 to TTL Converter (this i found for about £7, RS232 Serial Port To TTL Converter Module MAX3232 V 1.0 on eBay, also, Other Electrical Test Eqpt, Electrical Test Equipment, Business, Office Industrial (end time 31-Dec-08 15:15:49 GMT))

Or would i be better with this, A Connectivity Kit v2( Xecuter Xbox 360 Connectivity Kit v2 shopneo.co.uk).

If someone could clear some of this up for me so that im still not here next xmas.

cheers
gio

Here's a tut I wrote for myself which explains the power cycle a bit better, as you can see it's from the original tutorial.
Thanks go to the original poster.

First obtain Key.bin Inquiry.bin & Identify.bin with MAX3232. Save in a safe place.

Connect power to LiteOn
Open drive and close half & way power off
Power off all and connect MAX3232 (not sata or power)
Turn on PC and boot to windows
Connect SATA and Power up Liteon
Run Jungleflasher
Hit Lite-On-Erase button
Click yes to all the warnings
After the last warning (Powercycle) power the LiteOn off and then on quickly, during the ‘dots’, as seen below.

Sending Lite-On-erase request to port 0x0970
Drive returned status 0x80
.....(Power off and on NOW!)….
Serial flash found with status 0x72
Sending device ID request to port 0x0970
Manufacture ID…….
Etc.
Etc.

If it does not, click device id and power cycle when prompted.
After the power cycle, the drive should return status 0X72 and display flash information (above)

Once the flash info is displayed as above, the LiteOn is ready to write to.
Click on Firmware tool 32 tab and select Load From Dump Files and select key, inquiry & identify.bin
Press Open Target Firmware and select ix15-liteon.bin
Press Spoof Source To Target
Press Save to file.
Save the Lite_cwf.bin

Click on MTK Flash 32 tab and select Write.
It should automatically take the LiteOn firmware you loaded in the Firmware 32 tab and flash to the drive.
It will automatically verify the flash. If verified, you’re done.

Forgot to mention i have an RS232 cable from other times, is this any use ???
