hiya guys - ive got a tp link TL-WR1043ND wireless router that im using with my virgin media superhub 1 in modem mode...i have laptops, smartphones ps3, tablets connected to this router what are the benefits of upgrading to a gigabit router with dual bands like this here

Asus RT-N56U Reviews | Asus RT-N56U Black Diamond Simultaneous Dual-Band Wireless-N Fibre Broadband Router (600Mbps)

will i see any improvements, the duals bands interest me? will it make any difference?..not sure if my devices support such options or am i wasting money ?..cheers

will be better signal and will run dd-wrt (full version not spacesaving version ). what is the internet speed you get ? If less than 100 meg then the gigabit router wont help much unless your
doing file transfer through it . as for the duel band that will just improve the wifi signal so not sure if this will help you out

Im only on virgin 50 meg, i would like a stronger signal as the Router will be in the attic...and also the parental controls appeal to me...seem much simpler then the tp Link settings...which i just cannot get to work...i hear Asus Routers are the best..wot Do ü suggest for my needs...also play ps3 on line as well..

Either homeplugs or a w-ifi range extender, althought you can may be able to make some improvement to the quality yourself -

ordered THIS here from dabs.com, not bothered about gigabit port, at least its dual band, only issue that worries me was the 3 internal antennas, suppose to be 150% more coverage then my tp link router, anyhow if i dont get a good signal or its not what i expected they have a free returns policy...lol

well i got this asus router, been testing for a few days, updated to latest fw, and its not all that to be honest, very slow, sometimes i lose connection, wifi signal not as strong as my tp link with external antennas, 192 page is very good, parental controls working brilliantly and very easy to setup then the tp link crap. sometimes when i log into the asus interface by typing 192.168.1.1 it freezes and wont allow me to navigate any furtherm have to close my browser and it will work again, overall looks nice and slick, but performance wise not very good...sending it back, also dabs DO NOT HAVE FREE RETURNS which i thought they did...damm....

So what is your current layout like now

VM Superhub 2 in Modem Mode -> Asus Router, which you are then using to supply the rest of devices/household with Wi-fi etc?

Sorry my bad, I think you would probably benefit from using a range extender or router as a range extender, access point bring to get the range and signal quality you are looking for, as mobile and other electronic devices will weaken the wifi signal, I also found that moving the router slightly can have a surprising impact on coverage at my house (mainly a blind spot but slight improvement in range).

Keep your eye on

should pickup a decent quality router, at a good price.

ok thought id continue with this thread .i have reconnected my tp link router , after playing around with it for ages i have figured out that you need to enter the mac addresses of everything that connects to it to allow all the devices internet access....if you dont enter the mac address of any device it wont allow it access and block it. I have my vu+ultimo hard wired to the wireless router, i know the mac address of the vu+ultimo as i can see it in the dhcp clients list, but when i enter the details in the router it still doesnt allow it access...any ideas why?..

Do you know which model of tplink? Its unusual for it to be set by default to deny access to all devices unless they are listed or have you intentionally set it that way?

lol..ive been mucking about this tp link tl-wr1043nd...just disconnects everything lol...actually when you enable "access control"...it disconnects evrything, and i mean everything thats connected to the router wether it be hard wired like my ultimo stb or anything wireless....

Personally id do a reset, get your network all up and running, then start bolting down and tweaking.

I assume you can make a backup of your settings before you then start tweaking and enabling features. I assume you have also seen this

There is a manual and FAQ section that may or may not be of use to you.

I don't feel like im being much help to you, sorry, I use DD-WRT on my router and haven't really used any tplink items so im not familiar with the interface and settings :(

i would use dd-wrt but that doesnt have parental control or QSS..i have reflashed it with up to date original stock fw, its still the same, the link is for the v2 i have the v1 anyway think ive sorted it out, lots of trial and error but i think ive got it lol, needed to set schedule, targets and host, basically you have to enter mac addresess of all devices that you want to connected, any device whos mac is not in the list will get disconnected...this is without smartphones and tablets , ive got to enter them as well, i think i can enter about 16 devices in access control, see pic

I use this little program to see who is connected to my network, thier mac address and the ip address they have been assigned.
