:Angryfire..My main pc is wired to the wireless router which is in the attic...no problems there,,,two laptops pick up the wireless signal around the house...no problems there...the pc i have downstairs connects to the wireless router vis a belkin n1 usb adaptor...every ten minutes or so it looses connection with the router...have to restrat pc and it then happens again...removed all antivirus, firewall, reformatted pc, changed the pc to a newer one, moved the location of the wireless router to one of the room on the first floor...uninstalled router software, reinstalled router software, changed channels, enabled , disabled all kinds of security on the router,,,still does the same...ive come to the conclusion that it could actually be the N1 USB ADAPTOR!....im gonna try a netgear usb adaptor and see if i still get the same problem...ive even restored the router to factory settings...no new firmware for router or usb is available,,,any help and advice please as its doing my head in....i will tell belkin that it could be faulty...ta

Why put a wireless router in the attic? It gives the signal more surfaces to penetrate.

I avoid all belkin network stuff like the plague now had a pci network card of theres took it back always dropped connection and signal was always poor.

i have the N1 router too...mine works a treat, my 4 daughters and my xbox all connect wirelessly no problem.
the only issue i've found (not just with the N1 but with other belkin routers)
is in the settings.
if you select the belkin to automatically assign each connected device (ie laptop, pc, xbox ) it's own ip address, every time you turn your router off at the mains it automatically re assigns a new ip address for each device...for example,,with xbox live i check on my xbox console to see what my xbox ip address is, then in the routers settings i open the ports for it and enter the xbox ip address, and everything works fine, but if i turn off the power to my N1 , when i recheck my xbox ip address, my xbox ip address has changed (only the last number) so i then have to go back into the N1 router settings and change that last digit in the port forwarding settings.

but thats only because the router is giving each device a new dynamic ip address, but doesnt know which is which,,
unless you assign your own ip address for each device....

hope this helps...

Belkin N1 router dropping connection - Wireless - Networking

seems like a comon problem with this crap...im gonna try a netgear usb rangemax 108mbps usb adaptor...if it still looses connection then i know its the wireless router, if not then it was the n1 usb adaptor...

my vision freezes about 4 times a week and i have to restart it by unplugging it have latest firmware it wont allow me to try the beta one might phone them to see if they can do something about it

i thought only netgear wireless routers suffered from these dropped connections, so i bought this belkin n1 router...thinking it will be solid...im thinking of hard wiring my home network, but dont really want to start drilling holes all over the house...lol

No wireless network is solid m8 they all suffer drop outs from time to time and ofc suffer with obstacles and other 2.5ghz frequency household items.

My advice to you if you want to go hard wired is to get yoursefl some homeplugs.

they are plug and play totaly portable and you just add single units as and wehn you need them.

I would not give Belkin the time of the day any more, tried some and took it all back, I find Linksys and Netgear works better.

Some of the reviews for Belkin are great at start, but then of you follow the days after about a month or so it starts to fail.

what i dont understand is that i have 3 laptops in my household, all have their own built in wireless and all have rock solid connection with the belkin wireless N1 router that i have in the attic......however, i also have a pc which has a n1 wireless usb adaptor.....this keeps loosing connection........ive just got a netgear rangemax usb adaptor....which im hoping will solve the problem....when i connect it to the pc......

laptop wireless is top notch though m8 compared to a wireless dongle anyway.

hmm my n1 vision seems to run very well not a good as the netgear but faster speeds to my nas drive mind

Ive used belkin for all my networking needs and never had any problems, i recommend belkin personally, it sounds like youre just too far away from he router, try moving upstairs (even though you'll be moving it down lol) and see how things go;)

ok guys,,,ive just connected a netgear rangemax 108Mbps usb adaptor to the pc in question....worked great for about 20 minutes..before it dropped the connection...had to restart the pc again..worked fine again for about 15minutes before it dropped the connection again.....conclusion FCUK BELKIN :SSEXY:pRODUCTS....what a complete waste of money..gonna ring them up tommorrow and tell them exactly what they can do with their products..:Angryfire

but netgear isnt belkin.

Do you mean the pc is using a belkin wireless dongle?

i know netgear isnt belkin, but i thought id try a netgear usb , thought ut n=might give a more stable connection..but it didnt...all my laptops connect perfectly with the belkin n1 wireless router perfectly..yet the pc with any type of usb dongle, be it netgear, belkin, dlink or anytype does connect, but drops connection after about 20 minutes.....cant you get internal wifi cards for pc made by intel ?

Check the adaptor properties. The PC may be putting it into low power mode. It should be in the network controller properties.

I had alsorts of problems with a mates belkin wi-fi router trying to connect 3 pc's with wireless (dont know the model), even without it being secured and had a nighmare with the 2 running xp and tried everything, the other had vista and was never a problem, hooked up my own linksys wi-fi in his house and had absolutely no problems with any of the pc's even after setting up the wi-fi security, connected everytime. I thought it was me doing something wrong but after reading this thread im avoiding belkin.
