Ok been wondering this for a while (and this seems to be the most active section so best place to post I guess, but feel free to move it if not).

Why bother with clones ? there seems to be alot of hassle involved with keeping 1 updated, and stopping it becoming a brick, so why bother ?

With the old Dmm clones I could kind of understand it as the genuine box's were silly money and the clones were less than a 1/3 of the price, so it was a cheap way to get a linux box (although even then there were some risks).

But with Vu+, Xtrend, Gigablue etc etc the prices are much more reasonable, so I just wonder why bother with the clones now (even dmm clones) ?

How much cheaper is a Solo2 clone over a genuine Solo2 ?

How much cheaper is a Duo2 clone over a genuine Duo2 ?

How much cheaper are the Uno, Duo and Solo clones over the genuine versions ?

When it comes to the VU+ range i would not buy a clone because the difference in the price is not large enough.

The DMM clones though well there is a significant saving to be made so i do and will continue to buy those.

Thanks for the reply, my next question would be, what are the savings between a Dmm clone and a genuine Vu+ box of a similar spec ?

There are no real like for like comparisons of late the DMM range are still using really slow CPUs .

Compare the specs.

The last like for like would have been the 800hd and the vu+ solo.

Ok so how much are the dmm clone models now ?

I see in your sig you have a few different models.

Spec wise yes but you can never brick a DMM clone they are always recoverable if you flash the wrong image.

Does this mean that your choice was Dreambos 800HD SE if we take into account all the facts?

No id have a solo2 clone if i needed one because im clear on what to flash to avoid bricking it.

If you have no time to make sure what your flashing is correct then yeah id go with the 800SE V2
