VU+ or Dreambox what to buy

hi Ive got 2 dm800 originals and 1vuduo imo the vu is far better for ease of flashing via usb its a sort of cross between dreambox and a technomate as ive had them to you wont regret the vu hope this helps plonker

i cant understand why anybody would pay near 400 pounds for an original dm800hd.
it doesnt even have HDMI port on it.

the duo is the same price and comes with an extra tuner.

i was going to buy the dreambox but as i read more and more about the vu+ its put me on hold im really confused give me a push someone lol..

Get the duo mate . It's the nearest thing to a sky + HD box out there and in fact it's better. You can record up to 6 channels at the same time , use it as a media player etc.
The pic qualty is excellent and get the Vix image on it. + it is wife friendly !!

I'm with you on this i can't understand it either, and the new dm800se is even more.

What about bouquets and PQ compared to Dm800? Mate has got DM800 but not really impressed with PQ - I think his Openbox S9 had better pic quality! How easy are bouqets to load onto VU+ Solo? Only looking for single tuner.

the process of uploading channel lists and bouquets is exactly the same.
i couldnt compare the PQ as i dont own both, but the solo is just as good as the Sky+HD box imo

thanks for your replies guys it looks like i got the final push im going for the vu+ so whats the diffrence between the duo and the solo is it just the extra tuner or are there many other things? do you think im going over the top for my first box all i wanted it for was veiwing a guy i was talking to has put me off he said its a bit pricey for your first box there are many features on this box and its advance you will not be using any of them and you wont be hosting a server so he said i recomend you get a openbox hd or a dm500 is he chatting some or what ??

do you want HD?
if not get the dm500

do you want a good EPG,
if not get the openbox

do you want two tuners (to record a channel while you watch another)?
if not get the VU+ Solo.

otherwise get the duo

ive just ordered the vu+duo also!, supposed to be the dogs dangily bits from what ive read/been told. regards mdt

Hello all,

I was looking at getting a linux box. I have read that most Dreambox's are clones.
Can the VU+ Duo do everything that the dreamboxes can do?
That is all as I have been reading about both and just wondered if the support and services are out there for the Vu+ as when I read about sharing etc and search about it the dreambox always comes up as what you need to have etc.

Thanks for the advice.

Hi m8.

I have had my VU+ duo for a few weeks now and it is great. I found out an interesting feature it has and it can be setup so you can control and watch your box over your home network and from internet. I have still to get it to work over internet still but it works well over my home network. Means it can be watched in another room on your pc :proud:

I have also found that if you have an android mobile phone then you can access your box with your mobile and set recordings ect. I was going to get an android mobile when my contract runs out in february so im looking forward to that

It is a learning curve but great when you get it to work how you like it, including c/s. There is always lots of help on the forums m8

I'm still quite new to the sat world and as such haven't had a lot of sat boxes.
But the duo is a great box. The pq / epg / ease of set up / user friendleness is superb.
I got the Duo because i had a sky HD + box and i didn't want the mrs saying " The Sky box is better " and she hasn't !!.
She loves it.
There may be other sat boxes out there that i haven't tried that are better, but if there is they would be a hell of a box.
I've got a DM500s that i use as a server to my Duo and my sisters dm500s, but thats so i can fiddle with my Duo without upsetting my sis.
You won't be disapointed mate

I started life with a TM500 which is a nice basic box, however i treated myself to a Duo what a cracking box, feature packed, easy to setup, using the latest VIX image highly recommended for the money.

no i meant the 8000. the vu+ duo does exactly the same for me.

sorry m8 ; Vuo+ duo is a great box but DM 8000 is in a another category, they can not be compare ,first of all 8000 can be used as a triple reciever, sat+cable+terrestrial ,thats the only Linux box that has that function and it does work too.If we put dm8000 away so vuo+ duo is a great box compare to all others. If it was not the price most of us would buy dm8k

regrads
