i am interested in one of these, but dont know what they are like, for stability and cccam, server and client, and ecm info, like hops and stuff, and are the tuners good on hd channels, like sly uk and stuff ?

anyone owne one ?

and what do they think ?

General concensus is that they are excellent boxes mate and just as fast as their big brother the Duo - even though it has a considerably slower CPU.

But not for me I don't think, it doesn't support an internal HD and compared to the TM800 it's considerably less value for money.

It does have support of some major image developers so it will be popular nodoubt, but Pli has said that they reckon the hardware is 'crap' and aren't interested in it at all.

If it supported an internal HDD then I'd consider one.

so pli are pulling out of the image front, so who else supports it then ?

and hardware is crap, i thought these boxes are rock solid, it is starting to put me off, it sounds like it is losing support already, so tm800hd is rubbish, now hearing u say vu+solo, rubbish,, what is left, i heard dm500hds is rubbish as well, and spider is not open linux, so which box ?

No box is perfect...weigh up the pros and cons of each one against your requirements and budget...then just pick one that matches the closest to what your looking for..

If you want perfect...or as close as possible...get a legit subscription and box.

lol, was u being sarcastic, get a legit box and sub, have u done this ?

i guess it is a no then

Actually Yes I have...I have got a legit subbed Sly + HD box the 250 Gig Amstrad one, and a legit subbed virgin pace 4010...

Also have DM500, 600 and 800HD clones though...Seriously though Linux boxes etc...are more of a hobbyist thing...they are nowhere near the legit boxes if you want everything to work perfectly purely for TV watching...If the tuners werent flakey in Dm800 clones..they are damm good boxes.. I cant really justify spending the 360 quid on a VU DUO although I hear they are good..

Spiderbox is closed source...nothing to mess around wiith, not my cup of tea, TM500/600/800HD dont have enough software support at the minute... It's all catch 22...

Personally I hardly wacth any TV anyway..lol..apart from sport a and a few films here n there..the linux boxes are just something to play with..

I didn't say that the Solo is crap mate, I've never touched one.

People who own them are generally happy with them and the support is already pretty good, it's only Pli who seem unimpressed with the hardware.

I wouldn't say the TM800 is rubbish either, it's just needing to mature, hopefully once the source is released we'll start seeing more support for it.

Spiderbox is nice too, but don't buy it because of the 'gift' as the gift is shit and will only get worse, Spiderbox is closed source as you say, so pretty dull IMO.

I've got a Vu duo and it's just about as good as the Sky+ box'
The picture quality on Sd and HD is probably better than the Sky one and it does everything like Timeshifting / records up to 6 channels at the same time / 7 day epg etc.
The Epg isn't as nice looking as the sky one , it's mainly black and white and not pretty blues and yellows but it does the job and it's got pig ( picture in graphics ).
All in All it's a great box for me

Thing is Charlie the Solo is a very different box than the Duo.

If it was simply a matter of them removing a tuner from the Duo and rebranding it 'Solo' then I'd have two of them :) But they've built a completely different box.

As you know, I'll be grabbing a Duo soon . :)

i think it looks like the vu+duo for me then, is there a difference in chipsets, whats the true speeds of the solo, and duo, i know they are broadcom chipsets, but what speed are they

just checked ebay cheapest i see them is £380 delivered.

cheers.

i have decided to go for the vu+duo, and i pick tup today, so could someone close this thread thanks, thanks for all the help,
