oops forgot to mention the answer to ellie1998 yes to all, but as above still buy a duo.
My question was
Does this box do network mounts ?
What file types does it play through a network mount avi, mkv etc ?
If it does do I need to run vlc etc on my pc ?
refering to the bit in red you said yes to all now your saying that it's a sometimes.

I had planned to sell my tm800 at a loss and buy a vu box but now it seems it's just another box that doesn't do what people says it does.

I already have a hd box that doesn't play mkv files don't see why I would want to pay another £100 for a different box that won't play mkv's.

My dm500 can play them using vlc I will stick to that for now.

@ellie no im saying it wont play some xvids from usb stick. It plays anything via network mount.

or am I reading your Question wrong ?

Also if you are only getting a Vu+ Duo to use as a media player you are right do not waste your money there are much cheaper alternatives. Save yourself some cash you probably would not like the Vu+ anyway.

How come it plays from network mount but not from usb stick ?
Does it only play via vlc from a network mount ?
Playing via vlc wasn't something that I'm interested in as I said my dm500 does that (as does a dbox2).
I will keep my money as you say it is the media player bit that I wanted, I am after a hd tv box that plays most movie types but doesn't need vlc to do the task and has unlimited channels.

How come it plays from network mount but not from usb stick ? = same reason as your TM800 driver issues.

Does it only play via vlc from a network mount ? = as I said to the question you originaly quoted yes.

i have to keep reflashing(weekly) as box looses tuner configuration and channels .

no one else has commented about this problem, anyone else have this like chronoman ? or is his a one off ?
cheers :)

never had the same problem as chronoman not even after a power cut, all settings still there

Chronoman maybe you should contact your seller? as that really dont seem right mate
:)

Mine lost the tuner settings the first night I had it, I had been playing with bouquets (and everything else lol) and I could not reconfigure and had to re flash but it's been fine since

I'm using vix 1.3 with full updates and it regularly green screens. But I am switching between satellites using motor.

But I don't mind as 10sec later it works again

I should really send in the logs :)

with the Vu+ being broadcom based, there should be an option to auto submit crashlogs to the team behind the image

i dont know where in the menu system this option will be, but i know the code for it exists within the enigma2 code

but the more people who submit crashlogs, for whatever receiver they own, the more chance of fixing problems in the next release of an image as the coders then know whats causing problems, where, and why

i posted an address for any owner of another receiver to post crashlogs to last week, and so far have received a massive total of

Good advise that digi its a pity people just dont folow it.

VU+ DUO plays via integrated Media player from network mount\or usb stick practically any media file , no VLC needed

I only see 1 serious issue with this box:
Having TWIN tuners , it's doesn't have PiP feature:thumbdown:

although, BlackHole team working on it ( since 1.4.3 b )

I have some MKV's that cant play the audio stream (picture no sound), appears to be with files that have DTS Audio as the default audio stream.. I have tried through SPDIF through an amp same issue.
It's does DTS pass through . I presume , u are stick to VIX image ? May i ask why? Just course it's local ?

ive had mine since they came out and the only problem i have had is movie files ,i can play most but some mkv files i can play but get no sound no matter what i do ,i can record and i can timeshift and everything else np and play back is superb,i have only used one image i cant play files from usb either i need to play with it more

Do you mean the blackhole image or all images don't need vlc ?

1 It won't play DTS audio itself
(something to do with DTS license agreement VU+DUO have never signed )
-- u have to use external audio decoder ( any modern HOME audio system has one) i.e DTS pass through
2 to play media files from usb , u have to format it (linux file system)+ do mount
edited actually u don't need to format it or do mount .... playing no problemo from ntfs formated usb stick mkv(bluray rips),avi files (blackhole image)

Thanks for the input alec76
so are you saying the Blackhole Image does more than Vix ? offers more working features

It is better image IMHO. (BlackHole Vu+ Duo v. 1.4.4)
- Picture in Picture feature (video in second picture not smooth , kinda slideshow, although still better then nothing )
- DLNA support ( it has integrated DLNA server , so other network devices( playstation 3 , etc) could acces media storage (no mounts needed )

THERE IS no CAMS addons at blackhole server (so u have to install it manualy or use NabiloAddons server instead)

This package adding Nabilo server (softcams )to the green panel (addons)
