I couldn't resist n local Argos had one in stock so I've reserved for pickup and should have one a little later today.

I've not had a play with sat for a while n I quite fancy the FA Cup in HD on my projector!

The Humax looks like a reasonable box and is advertised with Ethernet n USB so I would presume some potential for customization.

I've not had a good investigate (Impulse purchase) so would welcome any comments from users and any pointers where I might find some additional info on Ethernet n USB functions.

Ta.

At the moment ethernet and usb uses arent developed so its just a matter of waiting for the freesat services to grow. The main thing is picture quality will be a great improvement over freeview and channel line-up will quickly grow, I am sure its worthwhile getting now.
Enjoy the FA cup in HD :).

I was delayed with work n missed argos so I'll have to wait till tomorrow to play.

apparently you can do a software update using the usb!

I'd have to say £150 for one channel prob not gonna make everyone run out n buy a HD sat box but fcuk I'm Impressed n have no regrets!

Just watched the FA Cup in HD on me Projector, only thing that would have made it better woz if Charlton had been playing in it, but hey I have stated in a previous thread I'm a dreamer!

The colour separation n depth of picture in HD is superb.

I did have a bit of an issue with my Projector n 1080i at first which I put down to BBC apparently broadcasting 1440x1080 not 1920x1080. Still an unbelievably sharp 72"+ diagonal image is something to behold.

Bring on the HD channels I say, Apparently Eurosport HD starts may 25th and is fta at the mo on hotbird I think, MotoGP HD!

This does just open a can of worms n a moterised system is my next investigation I guess.

In summary if you have a HD capable TV n No HD source FTA Sat HD is well worth investigating.

Its good feedback Hejira, thanks for that. I agree that just 1 HD channel is not that appealing, and even with ITV joining those 2 arent going to make some people upgrade. But the point is that the platform is now there, so lets support it :). Hd broadcasting will grow, freesat will grow, and it will improve.

The HD receiver upscales lower definition channels too, in the same way new DVD players with 'hd upscaling' also do. I realise hd-ready screens already upscale, but the point is these receivers are the current best spec and therefore worth having. They provide the best picture & sound quality available for any of the free uk channels. >>In summary, better than freeview, far cheaper than sky, available where cable is not, and some HD is better than none :).
Imo, good luck to freesat and anyone who supports it.

i also could not resist i went into my local currys store today and they had 4 on the shelf (i had to buy one)

got it home unboxed it plugged it into the old slydig dish (thats been up for over 6 years never used since i moved into this house), did the normal setup stuff for the box (ie postcode etc) then it found the sat signal, did an upgrade to the box and then scanned all the channels. How easy was it to do "VERY"

as to the picture and sound its second to none (just watched indi jones on bbc HD with the sound in 5.1 and it ROXXED)

so my first impressions of this box are very good well worth the £149 price tag

bring on more HD channels thats all i say

cheers
Sega

It's not much but Luxe HD is FTA and you can get it on the Humax in non-freesat mode - you will then see what a HD channel should look like :)
