I see BBC HD is only on in the evenings mainly with a mixed content from all channels

will ITV HD be the same with mixed content of all its channels on the HD channel

also dow we know if there are plans for BBC HD to show BBC1/2 as a stand alone HD channels

Thanks for reading

just read this
ITV HD
ITV HD is scheduled to begin broadcasting on Freesat in the near future. It will be accessible via the red button rather than given an individual EPG slot and that it would initially be viewable exclusively on Freesat equipment

what does that mean exactly, only certain programmes will be HD
if ITV announce a programme on at a certain time you need to press the red button and the HD broadcast would be shown,no independent channel then :(

at the moment no dedicated ITV HD channel, only HD programs viewable on normal ITV1 when available.

Load of shite so far they seriously need to sort out there shit if they don't want to piss off thousands of potential customers ! I mean who would start a new service without any programming and get away with it other than a government backed initiative ??.

they are doing that because they save money, something to do with another transponder and regestering a new channel. Its a money motivated reason

It's actually a better option than what 4HD have done - there is very little HD on 4HD, just Movies and a couple of series.

What suits one person always doesnt suit another.
#Channel 4 'simulcast' which means they show the same on 4HD as progs shown on Ch4. However this means much of the content on the HD channel is not High Definition but just upscaled SD.
#Whereas BBC HD only shows HD content but reduces the hours, does not simulcast and just shows best of its available programs.
#ITV will only offer best of its programming also, rather than trick people by upscaling standard def, and does has a good solution for this- Press red. So when Champions League footy is available in HD, or a new series is available in HD, or a Movie is in HD etc you can just easily flip.

Who can say what is best. I personally think they are all good solutions and only time will tell which version becomes most popular with public, but I am sure there will always be people that dont like it. So what, dont buy it, and at least you arent ripped of with £60 a month subscription.

I have no idea why anyone would think its a government service so cant really help on that. I remember when sky started, or BSB, or Freeview, or Ondigital, or Top-up-tv, etc and not one of those services had what Freesat has got from the start so I guess it proves my point- there will always be someone unhappy no matter what.

some good points there pinky :) think Id rather have true HD when avalible

as I said in a previous post "I may hold off a little bit and wait for the PVR"

I think the simple pvr with 'subscription free recording' will make a big impact for freesat. Its what people have been requesting from sky for many years which has always fell on deaf ears. It will be out within 3 months i'm sure, and that gives time for the freesat service to develop too. You have to think of it like this ~Dvd's or Bluray were not instantly splashed all over shelves in every large retail shop when they were first released. They gradually edge their way into popularity and you see more. Freesat is now officially here but it will need time to get rolling. Hi-Def, iptv, video-on-demand, pvr, 200+ channels, etc will all happen but just not in week 1 :).

Rat, in the mean time hows this for an idea? Sky are doing the "Pay-once" subscription offer, with option to cancel after 4months. It costs £75 including dish install + digibox + card + 4 months subs.
.....for those without a satelite dish on their house now >> take the sky offer and save yourself £80 install fee in the future for Freesat :). Just remember to cancel the subscription in 4 months just before going out to buy your Freesat PVR. Double bonus is the free sky channels for 4 months, triple bonus is sell the digibox & card in 4 months to pay towards your new PVR.

Thats an excellent idea P :) and most stores offer this 4 month sky deal for £75

you wouldn't tell me to do it if it wouldn't work but ill ask anyway lol

so the dish would be pointing the the same location as for sky and freesat,so no realignment when I change box's at a later date

I've just bought a Humax freesat HD box,i'm now waiting for the dish to be installed (so i can't tell you anything about it yet)...not that you learned folk can learn owt from me...lol
My question is,can i split the feed and run a freeview sky box and my humax off the same dish?
Regards...

edit:sorted, it seems you can't split a satellite feed..off the same lnb anyway

No i'm afraid, but there is talk of a pvr version being released, i have no links at the moment to confirm this.
Maybe someone knows of some?

Just get a duel feed lnb then you can run your sky box too.:BLOBBY:

That's a dual or quad output LNB, you could also get a twin feed with a second LNB on 19E with a Diseqc switch and run the Humax in non-freesat mode :)

Thanks pacman and lincsat, this is getting more interesting by the minute.
As a sat newbie i think i'd better go the twin or quad lnb route first for the easiest..
Dish installer expected tuesday, i shudder to think how much they charge for putting a quad lnb in while they're here...
As Digidude suggested to others,i'll get one off ebay and do it myself..

Once you have the dish installed you can easily change the lnb yourself and also run new co-ax cable where needed.
I think that getting the system now is still worthwhile, even though lots more development is due to come with freesat. It is still better than freeview imho and i am sure you will like it. We'll help here and you can get some extra channels added to the humax so that it has as much choice as the sky free-to-air box, so you might not need two receivers.

When the pvr versions come out in a few months you can always use this Humax in another room like bedroom for instance, as long as you have the quad lnb. So no looking backwards, its a move in the right direction, good luck.

Are you saying you can manually add channels to the freesat hd box? or am i reading this wrong pinkhelmets..
I've been reading through the sat threads like theres no tomorrow to swot up(and avoid any potential dumb questions),and i must say theres a bunch of nice people helping around here..
