Hardware Need a new laptop What make to buy?

What are you going to use it for?

The closest I've seen to 4K on a laptop is 3840x2160. And for that you're generally looking around £1200+ (Though Laptops Direct do have an i5 Toshiba unit for just under £770)

As for longevity; with the exception of the battery, my 9 year old i7 Dell is still going strong. The only upgrade I've done to it was adding in an SSD.

A good 4K screen on a laptop around that budget is hard to come by. If you want 4K output from the laptop via HDMI then that's possible. HP have a selection of laptops with a good quality 4K screen around £700.

I really dont get the whole 4k thing, Was at the cinema yesterday and watching a 60-70 foot wide sceen.

Digital cinema uses 4k tech so really if something looks great on that you have to scale down the size by 15 times for standard TV size but it is only 4x the defination so it appears to be over kill to me.
