WHAT VERSION DO YOU HAVE:

Look at the back of your PS2.
What are the first two characters on the serial number?
u1? (10 screws on the bottom) You have a version 1.
u0? (10 screws on the bottom) You have a version 2.
u2? (10 screws on the bottom) You have a version 3.
u2? (8 screws on the bottom) You have a version 4.

go here to help you find out what board you have http://www.chipinstallation.com/default.asp?action=psxdiagram&lang=eng

and here
http://www.thinkprice.com/acatalog/THINKPRICE.COM/Full%20installation%20page/PS2/

if you don't have instructions you will have to take your ps2 apart and find out what your board looks like and compair it to diagrams on the net but before you install a chip make sure what your doing as if you don't you could end up messing your ps2 up completely.

For atking your PS2 apart go here for diagrams http://www.xsorbit.com/users/kkiller/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&num=999552045
