The BBC revealed back in February that it was closing down one of its telly-viewing apps with the block now coming into full effect from Monday, April 8. The major change means the iPlayer service built for PCs will no longer work and it looks unlikely that it will ever make a return.
Now the final shutdown is taking place with all existing downloads being blocked from playback and the app closing for good.
It’s worth noting that this won’t stop PC users from watching shows via their web browsers - it’s just the app that won’t work. It also doesn’t affect the BBC’s mobile apps.
"This does not affect downloads on the BBC iPlayer mobile or tablet apps, and viewers can continue to stream programmes on BBC iPlayer on their PCs and Macs," the BBC confirmed.
