Hey guys all of sudden this box has no power, tried changing the power lead but still nothing at all. Can only assume its a faulty PSU, anyone else had this problem, also know how much a replacement PSU would be and who sells them?

Check for blown capacitors on the power supply board. They are fairly easy to identify if they are blown (google it). If they are blown it is fairly inexpensive to get them replaced from someone handy with a soldering iron.

how did you get on with this? a chip on my psu located at u3 just exploded.. now have to control everything via the web interface

that chip is a couple of pounds if you want to DIY. TM will charge you 25 for a swap.

I probably get round to fixing it just not got time at the moment. @Abu Baniaz can the chip be bought from maplin?

I dont mind soldering a new chip in but the writing is so faint I couldn't make out what chip it is! if you could send me a link it would be really appreciated

sorry my bad you already posted a pic, couldnt see it on my phone... thanks loads!!!

If the ic exploded its possible it got over voltage, replacing it could lead to a replay of the event..

yeah it literally went bang, seen a blue flash inside the box, and the top of the silicon has come off the IC and its black inside! what do you suggest? total new power pcb?

viper chips commonly explode in amstrad sky digiboxes as well, normally caused by over current due to failing hard drives trying to pull so much power. you could replace the chip, but, there will probably also be the photo transistor blown, the limiting resistors, switching transistor, fuse (if fitted) and possibly some of the lower end electrolytic capacitors (if the caps havent gone at this stage, theyre due to go)

While it is possible to repair this (i repair digibox PSU boards at component level) tbh youd be better off getting a complete new PSU board and swapping them over (and checking your HDD)

well I gave up and went to sky, if anyone wants to buy it as is then its for sale £50, north east
