Hi

Im trying to install a 2.5 sata HDD into the TM800hd
I notice there is no manual so not alot of help to start

I see it comes with a sata cable so i open the box i can see the caddy i can see the sata socket on the motherboard but where is the power?

Ive googled this but all i can find is instructions on how to make a usb to sata converter? i dont want a usb hard drive i have one of those i want a sata internal drive like it says it supports on the box

any help id appreciate
thanks

the SATA power connector is already inside the receiver, hard wired into the receivers power supply m8, when you take the lid off, youll see the black plug with red, black and yellow wires connected

anything over 160Gb on the internal SATA connection will have problems though, this is why some people use a usb-sata convertor connected internally with the drive also tucked away inside

Whilst Digi is correct, for best perfomance a usb adaptor is required.

However as you can see I ignore the usb route and have fitted the drive internally, this method is Ok if you dont keep restarting the receiver as it is a bit hit and miss if the drive get detected during boot up.

Also remember once you have connected the drive by which ever method, you will need to push the USB button on the remote and prepare the Hard Drive for use in the TM800

Hi
Thanks for your help i found it it was tucked away out of sight
Will look at those links

thanks

Now when i try to format the hdd i get an error unable to format hard drive
I bought a second hand seagate 80gb from ebay that said it was tested ok

might need formatting via PC first ?

tbh the most stable/hassle free way to use a HDD on a TM800 is via US, Id opt for a external HDD via the rear USB port
just my opinion

ok after a few reboots its managed to format the hard drive
i installed the hard drive utilities when i try to run the internal disk manager it says
NO INTERNAL DISK INSTALLED
yet i just formatted it and set it as the record path from the main menu

If you experiencing HDD problems please contact TM direct

Yea, they'll blame you for trying to use a HDD with it and then agree to send a USB adapter which will fit poorly (against the PSU) but will solve the connectivity issue...

For this gain you will lose access to the front USB port..

Basically, it's one of the many reasons this company should be brought to task and prosecuted for the debacle (and blatant B$) that is the TM800.

the OP is trying to use an 80GB HDD, which doesnt need the disk utilities package, and should work fine with the internal SATA connections. i have a 120G in mine, which is why i could never recreate a lot of the HDD issues people were having, as mine always worked, and with the OP's drive being UNDER 160Gb, he wont lose any of the USB ports by having to use this 'work around'

I can vouch for this statement 200%. I had issues with my drive. They ensured it was working when I left.

With a usb adaptor ? so you then loose a USB slot ?

At first it worked without the sata adapter. Image got fiddled, hdd stopped working. I then got caddy and eventually the permanent temporary fix and matching velcro.

Yes lost USB port.

Jimux's image allows usage of hubs.

cheers mate :)

so really CG121 was right ;)

as much as we dont like all the TM800 hate threads you can really blame and can understand how owners are still upset and angry

this rooms seems to be getting more activity :) maybe because of the massive price drop to £139?

what Technomate should do now is redesign the box art and remove the false claims maybe this has been done ?

I gave up on the HDD utilites but as you say its only a 80gb drive so maybe i dont need it? i only downloaded it as was advised to.

i tried to record something the other night for the 1st time. i couldnt easily find anything on the epg that said record so had to zap my channel and press the record button myself, i got the message saying a record had started but when i tried to stop it the stop button did nothing and i couldnt change the channel they were all gray. then i kept getting the message a record had started again...rrrr

Im one of the muppets that bought this of ebay for £99 + delivery who didnt know better :)
Its my 1st linux box and i thought for the price id give it a try

So far im fairly pleased i think the picture quality is superb and i get all the channels i want it to and rats channel list makes using the box so much easier

the epg is ok i was hoping for something better ive got cool epg but its slow to load and unfortunatly no single epg button to accesss it

Will development continue with tm800 are we likely to see anymore images come from TM?

We've been promised it'll be continued on after Twin TM release. Only time will tell I suppose. How much priority it'll be given I don't know. Perhaps if some full source code is released for it maybe the hobbyist community can get to grips with the driver side of things and really unlock it's full potential.

For £100 it's not a bad box to have. Especially if you can wing it and get £80 part-ex on Twin when it comes out ;)

The TM800 allows you to record one channel and view another on the same transponder. Because of this, channels on different transponders are unavailable to view, hence being greyed out. The text should really say "a recording is in progress, some channels unavailable"

If the stop button does not work, try the record button again.

My bad, I thought it read 800Gb :)

After all, an 80Gb HDD in an HD STB is like putting a 1Litre fuel tank in a Bentley..

That said, I still couldn't say with 100% certainty that the onboard port would be as reliable as the adapter..
