Hi all,

About to take the plunge & buy my first motorised setup, more or less decided on the TM5402 but does anyone know if I can connect it via wifi to my router? Receiver & router will be at opposite ends of the house so running an ethernet cable will be a bit of a mare. Anyone know of a wifi bridge that will definitely work? Router is a Cisco Lynsksys WRT120N if that helps.

Had a search & can't find an answer anywhere, apologies if its a daft question.

Cheers in advance.

Chris

i use one of these

[ame=http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/OpenMedia-Wifi-Bridge-Wireless-Gaming-Adapter-54G-/110666018720?pt=UK_Computing_Networking_SM&hash=item19c4356fa0]OpenMedia Wifi Bridge / Wireless Gaming Adapter - 54G on eBay (end time 23-Apr-11 19:07:42 BST)[/ame]

but

as theyre powered by the usb, when you switch the receiver into standby, the power to the usb is also cut, and it powers down, and when you turn the receiver back on, it can take for ever to connect again

i have fitted a power supply from the internal power supply to the rear panel to plug the wifi bridge into to get around this issue

Thanks for the reply. When you say for ever, how long are we talking about - a couple of minutes or much longer? I would mainly be using it in the evenings when I got in so I could live with it taking a few minutes to connect once a day.

I assume this would be a problem with any receiver & wifi bridge or is there a different setup I could get? Haven't bought anything yet. Failing that, how hard is it to add the power supply like you described?

Cheers again.

Chris

to add the power supply, i simply bought a DC jack socket, and soldered 2 wires from the 12v rail of the power supply, the hardest bit was drilling the rear plate and not making a mess of it

using the usb for power on the 5402,sometimes it wouldnt connect at all, and turning the power off didnt really help, as the usb powers up just after everything else, but, if fitting a power socket, it also leaves the usb port free for a hard drive

I understand this thread is a bit old. I have been running a 10m cable from router to the TM5402 but recently the internet connection was getting bad.
I want to install a dongle too but do not want to loose the usb for recording.
My question is would it still work if I was installing a usb hub on the usb so I can plug the dongle and the drive?
Otherwise is there any way I could have some pictures of such a set up as described by Digidude so I can do it myself?

Affter researching the internet I found some AC powered dongle.
Would these work with a TM5402?
Twin Pack 85Mbps Homeplug Ethernet Adapters. Looks like they won't need usb for power so they will always be on and I can still record!

plus no interferance and 100mbps throughput instead of 54 wireless
