Trying to do research regarding STB upgrade from TM 500 Super.

Liked TM 500 Super web interface to save bouquets and updating firmware and the like.

Just seems a lot of information to digest with regards to the plethora of STBs on market.

Narrowed down at the moment to a few possible contenders:

TM Single, TM Nano or possibly TM Twin.

or possibly non Linux TM 5402 HD M2

Could anyone who has one or of the above STBs recommend with brief pros/cons.

Advice, help and assistance greatly appreciated in advance.

Regards

Abs

The people who code for Technomate still do the usual circumventing instead of properly fixing things. After a long time they fixed the recording issue in the drivers. Then they broke it. They have now fixed it again. However the images that they supply don't even create crash logs. Other image teams do. They have known this for over 18 months.

Anyway, their build quality is very good. Hardware support is very good and you know that you will not have to worry about clone safe images etc.

See the following site to check details
Products - Satellite & Terrestrial - Satellite Receivers - HD - Technomate

TM Single vs TM Nano
Single has same sized casing as TM 500super, Nano is smaller. Single has an internal PSU. Nano has a 12v external PSU. I prefer external as less heat and easier to replace, however clutter for some.

The Twin takes a 3.5 sata HDD, all other linux ones take 2.5 drives. Single has the HDD fixing as standard. You have to pay for the HDD kit on the Nano, cheaper if you buy at the time of buying with receiver. This includes a fan. (You do not eally need fan if you do not have an internal HDD.

Single has three usb ports (Two at rear and one under a flap on the front.) Nano has only two, one at the front and one on the front, there is no flap.

Single has scart, Nano does not.

Although both have the same physical memory, approx 90 MB is used for an alternate software that most people will not use. Nano does not have this reservation. The coders were meant to have removed this extra partition and is still on the list of things to do.

Between the two, I found the Nano faster. Nano has only got the 4D and OPenATV images. There are a few more for the other TM receivers.

Twin vs 2T
The twin has a hardware loopout for tuner 1. It has two scarts as well as component output.
Both have RF output if you want to send signal round the house. Twin has a larger case and less memory than 2T. That being said, the Twin has more than enough memory for normal users.

For a main receiver I would say go Twin tuner even if you only have 1 feed at the moment. The flexibilty when it comes to recording (if it stays functional) makes this worth while. You can stream to a mobile device whilst watching/recording another channel on the TV.

There is no miniweb for editing files etc. You will have to learn how to transfer/edit files. It is not hard. No other manufacturers offer the mini web anyway as far as I am aware.

If you are spending big, I'd say go for the Solo 2, roughly £310 plus HDD cost.

For Twin tuners, at the £200 mark, choose between the Ventons or the TM's mentioned above.

Although I recommend twin tuner model, for a single Tuner receiver, you also have a choice of the DM800Se clone at the £150 range. There are risks to buying clones, but the SIM 2 factory ones are normally very good.

There are other manufacturers. Check out the market. There may be more images for the DM's but the TM's will run most of the plugins.

TM have a history of breaking things and not coding properly. Remember that loyalty is to oneself and not to any particular brand. The Nano, Single, 2T and Twin are reliable at the moment.

Many thanks for brief but insightful and very informative synopsis.
