Default Starview
* * * WARNING * * *

I have been given creditable information that the Starview client database has been compromised and hundreds of customer details copied including email addresses, ip addresses, paypal account id's and box mac Id's. If this is true (and from what i've seen I have no reason to doubt the authenticity of this claim) then its a very serious security breach for the starview team.

Passing on some info...ta.

if true there will be havoc ahead

oh dear !

Sounds like crap but then again anybody attempting to run a cable CS payserver cant exactly be too bright so who knows what they are capable of.

you can see both sides of this;

These types of scares often go around, across all sorts of areas. take them with a pinch of salf. HOWEVER, if Sony get hacked, regulary, i can't see the security on a small payserver in some dodgy blokes bedroom being all too difficult to crack by anyone with half decent skills.

I wouldn't worry about it if it were true, they may try and make an example of an unfortunate few but they are hardly going to prosecute umpteen thousands of clients. (may get a letter to put the frighteners on you and make you think twice in the future)
In fact, if i were a client, i'd be more worried about the inconvenience of my channels going off. lol

It doesn't look like VM thats hacked them, just some disgruntled customer thats not happy with their service. Not sure that makes it any better though, assuming its true.

angry customer yes,he said he could provide proof i hope not as i would not like anybody to post details of others on an open post,imagine getting an email saying your details from**** have been hacked:FRIGHT:

Not sure what to make of it tbh. It didn't really come across as being a hoax - the guy really sounded like he might of gained access to SV data somehow but who can tell for sure. Even if he were to post something nobody could tell if it were real or fake (except maybe somebody who's data is included but nobody is going to admit that). I think maybe the SV guys need to talk with this guy and fathom whats going on !
