Hey Guys, Im new to the forum!

Well I have a starview one box which a person im my area fitted in for us. He charged £150 and said if it every goes off he will come round and fix it up! Then recently he was saying that he may have to fit a new box in for £100 because he cannot find a fix for starview one. Then he comes round today and says he paid £200 to some private guy to get the starview one software and charges me £20 for it!!! Then I come online to this website and find out you can get it FREEEEE!! Also he has our cable if you wanted to do it yourself,so I cannot just ask for it from him can I?

Should i tell him the software is free online and I want my £20 back and I want my cable or just leave it?

Please feel free to post all relevant comments/advice below!

Thanks

First bit of advice mate is 1st post is usually in the who are you section.

Next bit is say nowt and get a cable yourself and the next time it goes off offer him the fix for £200 and say your box is fine and watch his face :salute:

Enjoy the forum, there's always help at hand as long as you have searched and read up on your subject.

Fookin traders, grrrrrrr

Id tell him you want your cable and to fook off once you got mate, let him keep the £20 but make sure he knows, you know the fix is available free and if he did pay for it hes a mug.:xmas:

Thanks for all your advice guys :)

m8 the person you really want to thank is yourself for finding this site, now you know you've been getting ripped off, and if you can fix someone else's box for free do it or send them here :)

To be honest, I'll bet theres hundreds of people getting ripped off for the fixes. It really doesn't hurt to just do a quick google, it's amazing what info you can find out. I knew nothing about all this key rolling or fixes until I found this forum (via Google, lol) Now people are coming to me for help and advice! I've only been on here 3 weeks, I know theres still loads for me to learn, but I don't think I'm doing bad :)

First of all, Welcome to the Forum AK-47. :)

However, I really don't see a problem with this.

The guy is a trader and £20 is the average you'd expect to pay for them to update your box, he wasn't ripping you off, he was charging you for his time and effort, believe me you got off lightly, some traders charge up to £50 for an update!

I once paid £70 for a device called a 'season interface' from a trader, a few month later I discovered I could have built the thing for under a fiver. :)

Around 80% of this forum have been in the same boat as you mate, most of us have been ripped off by the local 'trader' but eventually we discover that he is not a magician and the stuff he does can easily be done by most people - as long as you can read ofcourse :)

That was me too until I found this forum, now my phone starts as soon as there's a key roll  all the info you need and how to DIY it is out there its just a matter of searching, let him keep the £20 but I would look for my cable back.

What exactly is this cable that people want back????

:err:

im thinking the 'cable' is the null modem cable that you need to update the box. Rther have the £20 back first though as the cables can be bought off ebay for a couple of quid

lol, but a nullmodem can be bought for £2.

Why even want a serial cable back?

lol

I

I used to to pay 20 quid a time now and again before i joined here and considering what it would have cost for subscrition for the same deal i was well happy to pay this, if you want it done for a fiver or tenner believe me you will wait, thats my experience.

A fool and there money are soon parted.

You been ripped off twice

Once on buying a shitty starview and once paying for an update. Covering his costs for his hard work eh? private fix sold for £200 ???? sounds like the moment he got it off the net he rushed round to deprive you of your £20 and tries to justify it as he has some kind of 'magic'.

I have my views on traders and they are not good.

But by general trader prices this guy got off 'lightly'.

Yes. Starviews are guff. :)

The magic is ASTRA. ;)

God bless you.

Don't be angry with the ITGate people, because of them we have suffered from the last 2 ECM's.

;)
