European football continues..yaaaaaassssssssssssssssssss...........Gonna have a nice crimbo....hail hail

Celtic reached the Champions League group stage for the first time in four years following a comfortable victory over Helsingborgs.
Ahead 2-0 from the first leg in Sweden, Celtic increased their advantage when Gary Hooper poked home on 30 minutes.
James Forrest slammed a shot against the post late in the second half.
Visiting keeper Par Hansson made a good double save to deny Scott Brown and Tony Watt but could not keep out Victor Wanyama's powerful header.
Celtic can now look forward with relish to Thursday's draw and more Champions League nights to savour.
Celtic Park rocked to the sound of a boisterous crowd, revelling in their return to the biggest stage of all in club football.
Manager Neil Lennon had stressed to anyone who cared to listen since the full-time whistle in Sweden a week ago that getting there was far from a formality.
And Helsingborgs looked lively in the opening stages, enjoying plenty of attacking possession.
But a wayward Alejandro Bedoya shot was as close as they came to troubling goalkeeper Fraser Forster in the first 15 minutes.
Georgios Samaras almost put the tie to bed just after the 20-minute mark. The Greek forward brushed aside two defenders as he burst down the left, but his attempt to curl the ball in at the far post instead nestled comfortably in Hansson's grasp.
That seemed to spark Celtic into life and the crowd claimed vociferously for a penalty as Forrest's mazy run ended with the winger tumbling under Joseph Baffo's challenge, but play was allowed to continue.
Play media

Moments later a Samaras cross had to be turned over the bar by Hansson, and from the corner Celtic moved in front.
The ball fell to Brown on the edge of the box, his miscued shot landed at the feet of Samaras, who tapped it into the path of Hooper and his shot squirmed in off the post as the visitors claimed desperately and unsuccessfully for offside.
There were fully 51 minutes on the clock before Forster was forced to make a save, but it was a good one when it came.
Jere Uronen rifled a 30-yard free kick goalwards, but the keeper pushed it round his left-hand post for a corner.
Another fine chance fell Helsingborgs' way shortly afterwards, but Nikola Djurdic shot tamely into the side-netting before Forster required two attempts to gather a fierce drive from May Mahlangu.
The second half had begun much like the first, with Celtic seemingly content to allow the Swedes lots of possession, the difference being the visitors were now creating genuine chances.
They could, though, have found themselves down to 10 men after 62 minutes. David Accam, on the field for a matter of seconds as a substitute, crudely took Emilio Izaguirre out of the play but was shown leniency and just a yellow card by the Spanish referee Carlos Velasco Carballo.
Forrest was denied a superb goal by the upright of Hansson - the winger's sweet strike rattling back into the path of Hooper, who was wrongly flagged for offside, though he only hit the other post in any event.
Another thrilling move started by Forrest ended with Brown and then substitute Watt being denied by good stops from Hansson.
But that only delayed the second goal momentarily, as Wanyama rose to head past the keeper from the corner that followed.
It rounded off another highly professional job by Lennon's side, who can now begin to contemplate what lies in store.

[h=1]Efe Ambrose becomes one of the Bhoys[/h]By: Gregor Kyle on 31 Aug, 2012 19:09
IT’S been a frantic day, one that began in the early hours of the morning in Israel and ended with the signing of a three-year contract in Glasgow.

But ‘hard work brings rewards’ and as Efe Ambrose looked forward to starting life at ‘one of the biggest clubs in the world’ he explained that he can’t wait to get started.

Speaking exclusively to the official website just minutes after signing, the Nigerian internationalist commented: “It has been a long day, but it has been worth it. Today is one of the happiest days of my life, signing for one of the biggest clubs in the world – a club I have known about since I was young.

“I just can’t wait to get started,” continued the 24-year-old, “to play in front of the fans and call this place home.

“I would like to thank God for everything and to thank the manager and directors here at Celtic – who have placed their trust and confidence in me.”

Efe jetted into Glasgow this morning for talks with the Bhoys and successfully passed a medical at Ross Hall with flying colours before putting pen-to-paper on a three-year deal.

A Nigerian internationalist and Olympic Silver Medal winner, he has spent the last three years playing for FC Ashdod in the Israeli top flight, operating as a centre-back – but also playing in the centre of midfield.

“The move to Israel really opened the door for me and gave me my opportunity. I had been to other clubs, but they were the ones who gave me my chance.

“For that I would like to thank the coaches and directors at FC Ashdod, my agent Dudu Dahan and also my colleagues and the fans – who all helped develop me as a player.”

In terms of his preferred position, he continued: “I am the kind of player who plays where it is of benefit to the team. If the manager trusts me to play in midfield or defence, then I trust him and I am the kind of player who will give 100 per cent, whatever the coach asks of me.”

While looking forward to life in the Scottish Premier League and helping in the defence of the title, Efe is also ready to test himself against Europe’s elite in the UEFA Champions League.

“I have come here to find we are in the same group as Barcelona, Benfica and Spartak Moscow,” he said with a broad smile. “It’s a lovely group, you might call it the group of death and it will be hard, but hard work always pays.

“I am just looking forward to meeting my team-mates now, there is no better place for me than Scotland.”

Champions sign two more new Bhoys

By: Newsroom Staff on 31 Aug, 2012 22:45
CELTIC are delighted to announce that they have signed striker Nicolas ´Miku´ Fedor from Spanish side Getafe. And the Hoops have also signed Slovakian goalkeeper, Lubos Kamenar from French side, Nantes. Both players join the Scottish champions on a season-long loan, with the club having an option to make the moves permanent ones.

Twenty-seven-year-old striker, Miku, is a highly-regarded Venezuelan internationalist with a wealth of experience at club level in Spain and at international level for his country, and he was top scorer for Getafe in La Liga last season.

Lubos Kamenar is a 25-year-old goalkeeper, who has gained full international honours with Slovakia.

Both Miku and Lubos are delighted to be joining the Scottish champions and are ready to play their part in the campaign to retain the SPL title. And the two men are also looking forward to the forthcoming UEFA Champions League campaign, with the Hoops facing Barcelona, Benfica and Spartak Moscow.

The loan signings of Miku Fedor and Lubos Kamenar, along with the signing of Nigernian defender Efe Ambrose, will further strengthen Neil Lennon´s squad, and everyone in the Celtic family welcomes the players to the club and wishes them every success at Celtic.

And the club are also looking to bring in another striker, which they are hoping to do ahead of the UEFA Champions League deadline.

Celtic fought back to claim their first ever Champions League group stage away win against 10-man Spartak Moscow.
Gary Hooper's tidy finish gave the visitors a 12th-minute lead.
Tap-ins by Emmanuel Emenike either side of half-time put Spartak in front before Juan Insaurralde's red card for a professional foul on Hooper.
Dmitri Kombarov's own goal drew Celtic level before Georgios Samaras headed home Emilio Izaguirre's cross in the 90th minute.
Neil Lennon's side move onto four points in Group G with the Russians pointless after two matches.
And the first group stage win on the road in 19 attempts sets Celtic up for a double-header against Barcelona, starting at Camp Nou on 23 October.
Spartak set their stall out early on and tried to catch their visitors off guard with a series of crosses and corners.

Emenike's double had given Spartak the lead
But Celtic endured the pressure and moved into the lead with their first attack of the game, started with Victor Wanyama's forceful play in midfield.
Mikael Lustig was released on the right and Hooper got in front of Nicolás Pareja to convert the Swede's low cross.
Neil Lennon's side quickly found themselves defending in numbers again and former Celtic winger Aiden McGeady's drive was diverted out for a corner.
But the Russians were leaving themselves vulnerable to counter attacks with wide men Kris Commons and fit again Samaras able to make ground on the artificial surface.
And Hooper had the ball in the net again with a header from a Samaras cross only to be left disappointed by the offside flag.
A free-kick around 25 yards out gave Spartak a chance to level but Pareja's curling effort was kept out by Fraser Forster's diving save.
However, the hosts' next attack produced the equaliser as Ari latched on to Kim Källström's perfectly weighted ball in behind Kelvin Wilson and the Brazilian's one-touch cutback was tucked in by strike partner Emenike.
Play media

And another close-range finish by Emenike edged the hosts in front just after the break.
Forster should perhaps have done better than parry Ari's low strike into the path of Demy de Zeuww, with the Dutchman then turning the ball back across for Emenike to touch home.
Insaurralde's pull on Hooper eventually resulted in a red card for the Argentine defender, with French referee Tony Chapron overturning his own decision to let play continue after taking advice from one of his assistants.
The hosts' Spanish coach Unai Emery took off midfielder de Zeuww and sent on Sergei Bryzgalov to shore up the defence and Charlie Mulgrew's effort from the resulting free-kick was punched away by Sergei Pesiakov.
Lennon also made a change with James Forrest replacing Wanyama and the substitute played a crucial role in Celtic's second.
Samaras dummied Mulgrew's cross for Hooper, who set up Forrest on the right-hand side of the box.
The winger's shot was blocked by the foot of keeper Sergei Pesiakov but ricocheted into the net off Kombarov.
And Celtic maintained their momentum and snatched a deserved victory when Samaras' header looped past Pesiakov.

Fearless Celtic saluted by Hooper

A pre-match pep-talk, when Celtic FC manager Neil Lennon told his players they had "nothing to fear", helped inspire them to victory at FC Spartak Moskva according to forward Gary Hooper.

Hooper had given Celtic an early UEFA Champions League Group G lead in Moscow but two Emmanuel Emenike strikes either side of half-time looked to have turned the game, only for Juan Insaurralde to be sent off. Dmitri Kombarov then put through his own goal and Giorgos Samaras produced a 90th-minute header to earn Celtic a first away win in this competition at the 21st attempt. Hooper admitted the red card was their catalyst to move on to four points while Spartak goalkeeper Sergei Pesyakov rued a missed opportunity.

Gary Hooper, Celtic forward
I think the red card changed the game but we still had to put the ball in the net to win. I thought we did that really well and it was a great ball by Emilio [Izaguirre] for Samaras's goal. We were under a lot of pressure and I hardly had a touch in the first few minutes. But we defended well and we tried to get the ball down and we nicked a goal and I thought we settled down. They managed to score from a good ball and a good finish so we were happy to go into the break at 1-1, but in the end we are happy we got the three points.

The manager said before the game that we've got nothing to lose or nothing to fear and I thought we did really well tonight. We got a good point against Benfica in our first game in the group stage and tonight I thought we dealt with them really well.

Scott Brown, Celtic midfielder
Spartak Moskva are a great team and they showed great character but I think our determination and will power helped us get through that. They have some great players but we knew we had to get close to them and try and close them down and we managed to do that. I think Kim Källström put a great ball over the top, but that's what happens when you give good players time, but I think over the 90 minutes we deserved the win.

I hope this win is going to kick us on and shows what great team spirit the lads have. It shows the determination and character to win games whether at home or away. It's the first time this group of players has played in the Champions League and we have just shown everyone what we can do.

Sergei Pesyakov, Spartak goalkeeper
It was a really bad game to lose, especially at home to one of our main rivals. Seeing how the match panned out, we really should have gone on to win. On the whole, I think we controlled the game and enjoyed the majority of possession but I don't think we managed to create enough chances. We scored two goals but the game changed after the sending-off. We gave away a soft second goal and then conceded at the death. It's difficult to talk about this.

It will become clearer how much this defeat will play on our minds after this week, but I hope we will be able to get through it. On Sunday we have a derby against local rivals CSKA Moskva. We need to get ready for this match and make sure that we are fully prepared.

Evgeni Makeev, Spartak defender
We haven't got this campaign off to the best of starts. Against Barcelona we didn't play that badly. Today unfortunately was completely the opposite and it's difficult to explain why – maybe we were just tired? Our opponents gave us the opportunity to play, but we conceded due to our own mistakes. We had a number of players out injured, which also needs to be taken into account, but then again we could find a whole number of excuses why we lost. I still believe we lost this game ourselves.

Celtic looked to defend and we knew they would try to hit us on the counterattack. They didn't surprise us in any way with their tactics, but they still managed to score three goals. We need to forget about this match, otherwise we will not be able to move forward. We need to keep on playing and I think the results will then start to come.

Almost stole a point from Barca last night....Well done Bhoys!

Considering much bigger teams than Celtic have gone to the nou camp and got thumped I believe we gave a good account of ourselves...

Hopefully we can pick up a point at Celtic Park...C'mon the Hoops!
