Sky Sports News sources understand that Antonio Valencia could complete his switch from Wigan to Manchester United on Monday.

United are said to be close to completing the £16million deal with the Red Devils keen to replace the huge void left by the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid.

The 23-year-old is believed to be in Manchester undergoing a medical and the completion of the move is said to be imminent.

The Latics are set to make a massive profit on the winger after signing him on a permanent deal from Villarreal in January 2008 for a fee believed to be around £3million after enjoying 18 months on loan at the JJB Stadium.

The Ecuador international is unlikely to score as many goals as his Portuguese predecessor with just seven strikes in 89 appearances for the Latics.

However, his ability is not in doubt after three successful seasons in the Premier League.

Despite the big-money transfer it remains to be seen whether Valencia will handed the legendary number seven shirt at Old Traffor

Give the guy a chance we can't make assumptions just yet for me he is a very decent winger and can only improve!

He did well at Wigan in the past 2 seasons and i think he can do a good job for us! I still think we will be signing another winger well i am hoping lol!

I think and hope he turns out to be a very good signing for us every time i have seen him play for Wigan and Ecuador he has played well his stats last season were pretty good except for only 3 goals but maybe that stat will improve playing in a better team.Id still like for us to sign a top class striker either Benzema or Aguero and would love to sign a real class act centre mid someone like Essien would be great.Oh and not being greedy would like a left midfielder someone like Silva would be good.

Miralem Pjanic claims Lyon team-mate Karim Benzema is close to completing a £38million move to Manchester United.

Benzema has been a long-term target for United, with Lyon prepared to listen to offers if the France international expresses a wish to move.

Reports had previously claimed that Benzema was willing to spend one more season with Lyon in order to maximise his prospects of playing at the 2010 World Cup.

However, he could now be on his way to Old Trafford after Pjanic revealed the 21-year-old is ready to link up with the Premier League champions.
Nearly gone

"Benzema is nearly gone to Old Trafford," Pjanic told Bosnian website Sportsport.

"The English club are willing to pay €45million (£38million) for him and it is just a question of the day when he will move to England.

"He does not have anything against going to Manchester. Our side will be reinforced by Lisandro Lopez, the Argentine forward from Porto."

Real Madrid and Arsenal had also been linked with the striker, but it appears United have won the race to sign the coveted Benzema.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is striving to replace Carlos Tevez following the end of the Argentine's two-year loan and Benzema looks to be his top target.

Ferguson has money to spend following the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid and wrapped up the signing of Antonio Valencia from Wigan Athletic on Tuesday evening

i hope we do get him he is a quality player and only 21 !

He was quoted last season when he was linked with Real Madrid, Man United and AC Milan.

He said Real Madrid are great team but at United and Milan they are great for your development, so hopefully he will still see that at United his development will be greatest whereas at Madrid they expect the finished product striaght away

Nani is better however we still needed another winger and i still think SAF might sign another winger!

Nani and Valencia on the left and right and we have Tosic also who will possibly be involved more this season!

We still need a striker and an attacking midfielder
