I finally made my mind up and got a 7000, still haven't quite got the dish motor setup sorted but it is working.
I have put the 'billy bits' channel list on it but wondered if there were any channel lists about that just contained channels that opened with the 'gift'. I tried editing the channel list but the box won't have anything to with with the altered one.

I dont think there is a dedicated service+ channel list.
I dont use channel lists and just edit in the box I find it easy to do in the channel manager menu.I just scroll to "move"at the top put a tick against the channels I want and move them onblock to the top of that sats channel list.I"m sending the UDB I use but check it in your channel editor 1st to see if its any good to you.most of the viewable channels are near the top except sport & xxx and you will have to look for them but they are there, and my list is always work in progress anyway.dont forget to check your lon/lat after if you do load it.dont know why your box wont take the altered list.

I hadn't really looked at using the built-in editor, it sounded a bit heavy going from the instructions. Just having the ones that are not scrambled at the top will be OK for me, thanks.

Its real easy to edit in the "channel manager" menu.as said in previous post.just scroll to "move" then select the channel(s) you want to move with the "ok"button you can press the red button to view first, any mistakes just >ok again and the tick will dissapear once you have ticked all you want moving scroll to channel 1 and press the "move"(green)button the exit.you can do the same if you want to delete channels.

You seem to put it a lot clearer than the manual (ever thought about doing a proper 'english' version?) I have to read a lot of it several times before I get any sort of an idea what it is on about.
I am having a lot of trouble getting it to find satellites reliably, do you know what the 'recalculation' option does as the manual doesn't say anything about it and I don't want to screw up what I have got so far by trying unknown options, I have had to start over a few times already while trying to get this thing working.
I am on 1.6W but find it gets better results with it set nearer 1.0W using 'USALS', it doesn't seem to be able to find anything set on 'Diseq 1.2'.

yes what you have done with altering your longitude is right, you have to do this to fine tune it,I"d still go either side of 1W in your location longitude do it in 0.2 degree steps til you get max signal. I have never bothered with the re-calculation feature on any box.the easiest way to tune in diseqc 1.2 is as follows.go to a sat you can find easily on usals and fine tune it by altering your longitude position as discussed.then(1) in the motor setup menu drop to the command line and store sat position then go back to the motor type line and change it to diseqc 1.2 then back to the command line and store sat position again.then back up to motor type line and change to usals.now go to your next sat and repeat from(1)0.8 W and 1.0W should be stored in the same position, and do this for all sats.your motor mounting pole must be 100% plumb for you to be able to get all available sats.once you have setup diseqc 1.2 you may want to stay on it as usals sometimes stutters with spiderboxes.

Thanks for all the info, I think it is about right now, gets onto everything from Thor to Astra 19 first time, haven't tried any others yet.
When I put the 'Darkman_Gift_Patch_7000HD_0120' on it I think I just selected 'software only' and I notice your instructions say go for the 'all data' option on a new box, will that have caused any problems.

I dont think so if everthing is working ok,others may know better than me.is service+ working ok?also if you go to a sat using usals not on the channel list dont forget to do a scan.I"ll check tomorrow to see how you got on.

I think service+ is working, it says it's connected, that's the bit that opens the channels isn't it?

yeah thats right you should have digitalb/tring open on 16E a lot of good channels on there.if you look at that channel list I sent in your editor the channels at the top of the main sats are mostly the service+ ones but it sounds like everthing is ok.
