SKY+ Box Single Feed Problem

I am unable to record on my Thomson Sky+ box.

Unfortunately, we only have a SINGLE FEED connected to the 'Input 1' socket, and it is my understanding that the Sky+ box, by default, records using the signal from the 'Input 2' socket.

The result is that the recordings fail.

The 'HOW TO CHECK YOUR FEED' instructions given on sky.com support are not consistent with my box. Re-booting does not solve the problem. .

I know I can fool the box by setting up a bogus Manual recording to start before my desired recording, and end afterwards to utilise 'Input 2' – but this is a pain.

I have read somewhere that it is possible to disable Input 2, or change the default recording channel to Input 1 on some boxes. However, although I know how to access the Installers Page, I cannot find a path to do this.

The PSU has been upgraded to one with better caps, and is not giving any trouble.

Any help appreciated.

press services go side ways to spanner now down now press" 01 select "now select set up at the bottom it says single feed or duel select single press green to store

Thanks for your reply but there is no spanner opiton, only (L-R) TV Guide/Box Office/Services/Interactive.
If I then move to 4 System Setup, and enter 0,1,Select, I get the Installer Setup Menu which has following options: 1 LNB Setup; 2 Default Transponder; 3 Telephone Settings; 4 RF Outlets; 5 Manual Tuning; 6 New Installation; 7 Sky+ Planner Rebuild; 8 Full System Reset. None of these have a feed select option in their sub-menus, as far as I can see.
BTW the O/S version is 1.31B11, and the EPG 5.08.6

Appreciate reply from Fisco2001.

Yes my Sky+ box has a white fascia. It is a Thomson 132_168, but as hard as I try, I cannot find any reference to Single Feed mode in any of the Menus, including the Installers Menu, or in any of their drop-downs.

I spoke with Sky who say that it can't be done on that box, only on a Sky+HD, which I think may be a not so subtle move to get me to upgrade.

Perhaps there is a hidden menu somewhere that i need to visit.

Any further thoughts most welcome.

sky+ cannot be switched to single feed mode, and i doubt an update will allow this either, as they want everyone to have a HD receiver

hi
i found this hope it may help

There isn't a single feed mode, as such, but have a read. It's as good as any.

As the Sky+ uses input 1 for normal viewing and input 2 for the first recording you are getting failed recordings because of this.

There is an easy way to overcome this BUT it will only enable you to do one of three things
1 Watch one channel
2 Record one channel - either set in planner or pressing record whilst watching
3 Record one channel and watch a previous recording.

To do this the lnb cable should be connected to input 1. Set a manual recording lasting 24 hours repeated daily on a channel you do not watch (can even be a channel you do not subscribe to) - this will fail because there is no signal on input 2 but will make the box think that input 2 is permanently busy and so it will use input 1 for any further recordings. The failed recordings will take up a minimal space on your hard disk and can be deleted the day after. Any clashes of recordings and your viewing will give an on screen message.

Thanks Bob114 for that.

Your reply ties in with my original posting, so I guess I'll have to put up with the problem until I upgrade to HD (or move!) - unless someone else knows different.
