the joys of being self employed. just finished a 3 week job on friday, for which i supplied materials for as well, and the bloke said "i can`t find the right cheque book" even though he had 4 in his hand. "can i bank transfer it ? " yeah no problem i`ll ring with acc info when i get home . "great i'll put it straight in'
so just texted him to say it hasn`t gone in "oh just done it today and it says upto 3 work days"
cheers pal , you just jump in your top of the range, range rover and drive out of your million pound house. i'll wait for my money.
i tell you , if you go to an old dears house to do some work they can`t wait to pay you. some as i walk in the house, go work for a millionaire and you`ll to wait.

One of the Woe's of being Self employed I'm afraid when i do sub-contract work the usual wait is 6 weeks but generally it takes around 4 now, you could always ask for up front costs to go towards materials dependant on price of job i do especially if its in the thousands.

no paid holidays no sick days its great lol ... lucky tho l couldnt work for anyone else

So learn from it. As soon as materials become a requirement I start asking about deposits and stage payments. If the answers don't sound 'pleasing' I start looking for the exit. Figure out which parts can be done cheapest and do them first, losing on time is a pain but there'll be no suppliers chasing you.

Anyway, you already have your answer - work for older people who are NOT millionaires. They'll pay promptly and, if you do a good job, you'll get more work. It's a growing market too!

yeah i do try lol your average working man/woman pay up straight away. it just annoys me that its always the ones with money lol
the materials weren't too expensive luckily.

Self Employment isn't the wonderful thing that many people believe, and the assholes who delay payments like that can often be the demise of a small business, I think many do it in the hope the small business will go under so they won't have to pay because the guy can't afford to pay for the money to be chased up.
Then you always hear, about the great part of Self Employment and how you can take holidays when you want....................maybe, if you are highly successful, but for the large majority it is a case of can't afford to take a holiday because it means no money coming in. I feel for the small and one man Self Employed business, and would urge anyone who uses them to be prompt payers and to recommend them to others if you are pleased with their work !!

Self employed are normally treated like scum by the top end of society

I know this probably wouldn't help if the sh*t-head simply didn't want to pay, but it would give him one less excuse.... Seems a good idea, I'm tempted to try one.

Lol! If that's the solution I'll not pay someone and offer Mrs M - the video of some unsuspecting male being torn limb from limb would go viral in minutes!

:roflmao:

ive seen these for ages, and personally, i wouldnt trust my card in a device connected to someones phone. I have a mobile card terminal that works of any mobile network it can find, and while its the same sort of thing, its actually a 'proper' chip n pin terminal, instead of a dodgey looking device stuck out of your phone (anyone interested in a card terminal, i have a referal code that gives you slight discount :) ) i have a slightly older version of this terminal, mine doesnt have the contactless option Mobile Card Payment Machine, Contactless & GPRS Card Terminals

youll get a 'proper' chip n pin mobile terminal, with no contract or rental fees, for a lower rate than the paypal device

how much are those to buy/rent? i'm starting up self employed soon and that looks like a good idea

I was once warned about a client who kept an empty cheque book so he could say 'oh I have run out of cheques' and yea the bastard tried it on me.

He had another book as wasn't leaving without being paid.

If doing a job were you provide materials, its reasonable to get a deposit to cover them rather than use your own money.
