I had an important parcel i needed that was coming yesterday and my postman was late yesterday so i had already set off for work.

So off i trot early this morning to find that my local sorting office is on strike, about 20 postmen stood outside, and as i walked up a few of them shouted "hahah come all this way for nothing havent you", set of ******s.

If i went to work and stood outside the gates whining about pay id either get a warning or be sacked, they knew the job and conditions when they took this job so why punish everyone else because they want more money.

So not only do i not have my important parcel, i am fuming at being laughed at because i come down to collect my parcel.

The only thing out of order, is the guys doing the laughing at you, they should not have done that...as for the rest, they have the right to strike for better conditions, as we all do,,yup it is a pain in the arse for us all, but I am sure the decision to strike was not taken lightly. I for one could not work in the wind, rain, snow, and take the moans and groans from everyone that goes on about "your late"

sort it at christmas when they knock for a chrizzy box just laugh

If they want more pay they need to sort the service out first.
When i get Royal Mail parcel delivery and I'm out I have to wait 48 hours before I can collect it from the sorting office. They don't even try to deliver it again.
So i pay for next day delivery and can't get my hands on it for 3 days.
Royal mail's days are numbered anyway. There's not much they bring that I couldn't get sent electronically. All the private delivery companies could teach them loads when it comes the service.

I understand your frustration regarding not being able to get your parcel, and I depore the strikers laughing at you, but as previous have said they are entitled to strike for better pay and conditions.
I was a postman for thirtyfive years and what they are trying to do to them is down right deplorable.
As for collecting your parcels and mail, there is an option where you can call and collect your post every day from the sorting office(there is no charge for the service), I know it's may be a bit of an ordeal everyday but if you need your mail early or cannot be at home for the postman, that option is always available to you.

if they were laughing at me i would not be able to control my self becouse at the end of the day its the inconvience...... but i do agree on the strike i would do the same if i felt i was not getting paid enough lets face it is a s**t job.

Calm down mate, your new dildo pack and rubber suit will be safe, you can collect it on monday. :)

I'm also waiting on a similar kit, I even paid for Next Day delivery, then I found out the posties were on strike, good luck to them I say, IMO they offer a great service and do it for buttons.

yep i was exspecting some stuff from tmc 2moro so i can have a play on the weekend with it but no chance of that now

Think you are getting confused, the complaints you have are with the way management deliver the service, the poor postie has feck all to do with the company policy so why have a go at him.

LOL it is like, moaning at the check out girl in asda cos asda charge 2 pence more than spar for a can of beans. you need to talk to the organ grinder.....

Dont get to excited if you think youll be able to actually collect your parcel as if its the same as my local PO the office is only open from 10am 'til 1.30pm........now what use is that?? unless of course you have a cushy posties job and you finish at 12 and not forgetting the week off in every 6 ;);)

P!ss take! Although all couriers are useless aswell, so you've got the choice between bad and worse really

Posties have to be in work at 5.30 in the morning! They are actually paid until at about 1pm so that would be an 7.5 hour day. If the round doesn't take until 1pm then they are allowed to take that time off. In some areas a 10.30am finish for the postie doing the walk is a bad day! (this is one of the areas Royal Mail want to modernise, but have decided all offices need to loose upto 25% of the staff, rather than just those that are over staffed).

And its not a week off in every six, they get sundays plus one day in the week on rotation (i.e. monday one week, tuesdays the next etc) much like most office workers get weekends. Then they get 4 weeks holiday on top of the 8 bank holidays (a throw back to the government controlled days).

The Post Office is a different arm of Royal Mail group which is why they didn't strike with the posties. And sub post offices, rather than the main PO branches, are franchises.

BTW the 'insulting' 2.5% that the postal workers striked over the other week is the same amount that nurses and clerical staff in the NHS would be happy to get (at the moment we've been offered 1.5% from April gone, and a further 1% in Novemeber 2007, pro rataed for 2007/08 tax year its 1.9%).

Just to point out, the posties were not only striking over pay - they also wanted to see some modernisation brought in apparently.

I have had two very different views of the royal mail, where I grew up I was very good freinds with a postie, my letter would get delivered to work if I was out etc, or he would pop round late at night with them on his way home (lived in countryside). However I'm up in Edinburgh now and the service is awful. Over the last week, I have been working from home - the bleeding postie has been popping a card through my letter box saying I missed a delivery, ringing the bell and walking off.

I caught one this morning doing it, he gave me a filthy look for asking for my parcel.

Also, I went to pick up one of my missed deliveries on saturday, I missed it on friday at 0930. Waiting in queue until 1200 on sat only to be told I needed to come back after 24 hours hadnt passed. I pointed out that it had actuall been 26.5 hours since delivery only to be told "dont try and be smart, come back on monday" (they still didnt have the parcel then). Now, they were not entirely important things, just some crap I got off ebay, and I dont mind going to the depot if I really miss it - its just there is no need for posties to take the rise like that.

Roll on the Royal Mail getting some decent competition.

i was expecting a samsung 2110c a few fridays ago. didnt get it because some van got stolen! i got a refund from the seller but was stil frustrated, was a very good deal. however the seller is claiming 200 from them, if he gets half of that he will be happy.

they seem to be good if you know them.

i know a few of the city link drivers and dhl and ups drivers in my area..... and they know where i work now so will drop stuff off there if no one is in :)

i grabbed a royail mail guy the other day as i was expecting a parcell. and he bought it to my works monday morning :) which was great as i had people waiting for there items.

it seems thou in general you pay for a first class service and get a third class service.

most if the time they are l8. or dont even ring the bell if they apparantly have a parcel. and just leave a note.

i know some big companies you can pay £4 a parcel and they dont mind on size or weight. as long as you use them for all there parcels. anc i think offer this.

one word for the royal flail...SLAPDASH........they are only interested in one thing...working a half day....lazy bastards most of them ;)....remember viz magazines postman plod....shit they got him down to a tee.

we shouldnt generalise all posties by industrial action - they are not all lazy and they are not all rude.

However, they are facing a public image crisis. The management seem to be inpet and the posties themselves seem to do what ever the hell they want.

What annoys me the most is that the Royal Mail was the first proper mail service in the universe, now its quite bad.

I say open up the way for new competition - that will give all those posties a wake up call once they realise they need to do work or someone else will...

Just shows you the brain capacity of your average Royal Mail employee. Laughing at the very people who they need to support their cause. Those idiots dont deserve a payrise mate.

Glad to see you've got all us posties down to a tee pal.
9 times out of 10 it's "those idiots" that are delivering the mail that you paid tnt or whoever else your money to.
I'ts also "those idiots" that batter through wind, rain ,hail sleet ,and snow to deliver your mail and your parcels / packets and stand at your door having to write out those red notices in the pissin rain while you decide wether or not you can be bothered getting off your arse and answering the door. All this while taking dogs abuse from half the people out there for being late cause we didnt get to your door in time to suit you.
It's not our fault we're later now, that's down to management changing our working hours. Trust me i'd much rather have the early starts again, at least then we got the mail delivered before you shower of ignorant clowns hauled your lazy asses out of bed.

End of rant from one of "those idiots".
