Why when I mentioned to all my friends and fmaily that I wanted to get my CBT and go for my bike license, alls I got was negativity?

It's not that dangerous, is it?! Someone give me positive, or I'll forever be on 4 wheels.

Cheers! Theres a decent bike school where I live, so I'm quite lucky. (If the website isn't a bunch of lies!)
Think I might just go for it... Let's see if anyone else eggs me on! It would be cool for buzzing around on a nice sunny day, or for city transport.

At the moment my bro has stolen my car and has it at the other side of the country so I've been putting up with a 5 mile round trip to work on my bicycle for the last 12 months. Fun fun fun!!

Motorbikes are not Dangerous, its the person riding it thats dangerous

Hey B

I had the same problem as you, hold your right hand up and face your knuckes away from you, slowly lower all your fingers except index and middle ones
.....V..... Show that to your family and friends and go do your CBT. Start off on a 125 for a few month. somthing thats not a twist and go, get gears (CBR125)

As to being dangerous well yes its bloody dangerous but no more dangerous than riding a bicycle. If you are a twat on the bike dont be stunned if you Fall off. (Also watch out for Scooters) they seem to think the laws dont apply to them.

I dont regret getting my CBT one bit. I no longer Commute to work for an hour and a half i RIDE for 45 minutes and I mean Ride in every Fun sense of that is imaginable, I look forward to going to work and going home :)
: dipsy :

Im quite safe, I think.

I've never had any trouble on my push bike. The golden rule I stick to is to always assume that no1 has seen you and will most likely pull out on you.

Had the same prob when I told my family and friends about wanting a bike. They said it was a mid life crisis and laughed at me when I got my CBT at 40. Now I've got a full license and a 600cc Bandit my mates are jealous as hell. Go for it mate, to hell with them cause soon as you got a big shiny bike ....they all want a go.

It's always interested me. Used to get picked up on my dads moto guzzi from school :)
Then a few weeks back a friend of my housemates came over on a motorbike. A nice little 125, styled like a Harley!

It was sweet. Hmm, I might try and book myself in for this weekend or next :)

..and the midlife crisis thing. Thats really starting to pi55 me off! lol. I'm only 23, but my girlfriend was joking about it being a midlife crisis. What is with that? I just want to learn to ride a bike!!

Anyone got any advice on bikes? All the 125cc's are advertised with 'schoolboy' in the name! I don't wanna be a sissy! Don't wanna get myself killed either mind :p

I started off on a aprila rs125 extreme, fast as fook for a 125. Go for it you'll never use the car again, great in traffic jams ;)

Some good advice here remember it's normally the idiots in their tin shells that take bikers out because they just dont look, always remember to think for them as well ;)

Go for it,cant beat it.
I went thru direct access about 9 yrs ago started on cbr600,currently got an r1 for me its a massive escape pulling the helmet on and just fecking off for a few hrs.

Just go for it .
One of the best things I have done ,was get my bike licence ....

i'm a biker and love using my bike,so much easier in the traffic, when i said i was going to get my test done there was no surprise in my family as i was riding bikes on the field anyway and my dad used to race sidecar and bikes so it was positive all the way for me,i love the simpleness of just getting on my bike and just going...its great feeling on the road and only use four wheels when i really have to.....go for your cbt m8 you will not regret it in anyway.

I have three passions in my life, snowboarding, my ZX7R Ninja and flying.

I would recommend any one of these to anyone, just have respect for what you are doing, otherwise it will seriously disable you, or at worse, kill you.

Remember, its your blood, you spill it.

Riding a motorbike is not at all dangerous if you wear the correct clothing and maintain a safe driving speed.

The problems arise when you add other drivers to the equation - you just have to assume that no-one has seen you and drive accordingly.

I've had a Yamaha FJ1200 for 5 years it still pulls like a train and can still scare the sh*t out of me, sadly its being sold next week i want something a bit smaller like a 500 or so. The problem I have is the other motorist that don't see you!: dipsy :

Cheers guys. Provided I can find the paper part to my driving license, I'll have my CBT by Sunday afternoon :)

Good mate, Let us know how you get on?

PS: I just realised I don't need to do a CBT as I've had a full driving licence since 1984.....lol. I can just dive right in and try and get the full bike licence. Mind you, the only two wheel experience I have had is fleaing around holiday resorts abroad on a moped with my mates....lol

Sure you can ride up to a 125CC. You'll need to sit a bike test to ride anything bigger. Not too sure what test/s are involved mate?

You still have to do your CBT , however long you have been driving !

Unless you only want to ride a moped !
