hi just wondered if anybody had tried this combintation yet, since the new atlantis release of xbmc is available in all flavours

just thought id check if it works well before i go ahead and twat around with it

im assuming -probably mistakenly knowing the ps3-that it will work as well as if not better than the xbox version,i only wanna do it for the x264 versions of the tv shows i download

AFAIK all hardware acceleration is disabled within the PS3 Linux resulting in some pretty shitty video results, not sure if this would effect the Video decoding, hopefully not, how great would XBMC be on a PS3! :)

I have tried this out with a desktop running Ubuntu as I am putting together a media center. It is fantastic, and given it is the same version of Ubuntu that I have had on my PS3 in the past, I would say it would work fine.

The combination is possibly a lot more user friendly than LinuxMCE at the moment.

Not so, since 7.10, Ubuntu has recognised all the hardware and is very very smooth.

Hmm, I thought Sony had disabled direct access to hardware inorder to prevent potential software hacks coming from a Linux source.

Something about a Hypervisor inhibiting access to the RSX.

OK, so can someone point me in the direction of a PS3 compatible edition of Linux, I'd love direct High Def streaming :)

Will any Ubuntu work as long as it's over 7.10, or does it have to be specifically compiled for the PS3?

ok so umuntu 7.10 is the linux to go for ,tou got any links to the one your using karym

I'm hoping to find one compiled specifically for High Def Video streaming, something that's more or less plug and play :)

Christ mate, look at this, two x264 streams running at 1080p on the PS3 at the same time!

YouTube - Dual 1080p H.264 Stream Playback on Linux PS3

aye impressive,if its genuine, only h264(which 360 does anyways) but if there genuinley 1080p then this could work well, the xbox copes with some of my smaller x264 720p files-music vids-and standard def x264-and since the ps3 is supposed to be soooo powerfull it shouldnt have a problem

ill find me an umbuntu get the linux atlantis and have a bash when every1s in bed

just gotta remember how to do it now lol

please let let us know how yous get on i never installed linux as heard couldnt play hd films due to hardware being locked.i mux all my files to m2ts the now but would love xbmc on the ps3 especially now that my nmt player has died on me and i need to send back

anyone tried megabox v2 heres a site with some info its in spanish as english site under construction butcan use online translator Megalandia S.L.

ok so ive spent a fair few hours titing about with it,and guys-dont bother it cant play 720p or 1080i mkv files, infact the original xbox plays them better-ps3=still frame from film, audio in background xbox=juttery playback audio fine

tried with vlc, mplayer, xbmc and the built in movie player

the linux itself performs better than the last time i tried but as a media player it fails big time

interesting, it works very well on a desktop. A shame really as this could have been a good media server application.

Are you using a wlan, or using ethernet to connect?

i used ethernet to connect, and also tried by transfering files locally but its just naff, the only other thing i can think may help is some third party codecs or something,as i only installed the ones i was prompted to install
