hi guys just got myself a new PS-3

try to network it to media player 11 on me puter but having no joy
my m8 at work has got his working fine, but mine will just not have it

my router is a Netgear DG834GT (ASDL)

anyone got any ideas or a for Dummies setup..?....

thanks in Advance........................

Urm...for my PS3 I only had to enter my wireless settings and away it went.

I have setup Windows Media Centre to allow sharing to any devices connected to my network, you most likely haven't told WMC which devices you are allowing on the network mate.

Click on Library then Media Sharing and make sure your PS3 is allowed access.

I think sometimes my Kaspersky chirps up when this is trying to connect, I need to allow it

did you allow your device in wmp11 as stated earlier, open wmp, click on library, scroll down to media sharing, tick the share media, make sure your ps3 is on b 4 any of this, you should now see unknow device, select allow, hit apply, then share what ever you need with your wmp, and now go back to your ps3, make sure if your watching a movie, that your below the video section on the ps3, i know if your on music, and you open your media it says music, video etc, but if your under the music heading, then your movie wont play, need to be under the video heading, hope this helps :)

Try re-installing WMP mate, that's definately not right :)

why not try tversity instead of media player.
see if that works instead

cause i want to get this one working now m8, carnt see why it will not work
everything is in the right place, tversity will be my back up plan m8
thanks......

Well if the PS3 is setup ok and WMP is crashing even after you have done a DNR (Delete and Reinstall) then something may not be quite right with your OS mate, perhaps a conflicting app?

Not sure mate, it can be really tricky and time consuming.

When WMP locks up, have a look in your task manager to see if anything in there is using a lot of CPU time.

There is an app that will tell when what processes a particular app has access to, it can be really handy for finding out why your machine is doing silly things. I can't remember the name.

It wasn't Hijack this, but it worked in a similar way, yet better.

Found this on another site, hope it helps

1 - Click Start > Run
2 - Type "services.msc" without the quotes
3 - Scroll down to "SSDP Discovery Service" and double click it.
4 - Where the drop down box in the middle of the property page is, under the heading of "Startup Type", change the setting to "Automatic" then click apply. After this, the start button should become enabled so click on it to run the service.
5 - Close the window then back on the services window, go down to "Universal Plug and Play Device Host" and double click it again.
6 - Repeat step 4 for this service.
7 - Close the window again, then return to the services list and scroll further down to "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service" and double click this service.
8 - Repeat step four again for this service.
9 - Close the window and then close the list of services on screen.

Now try to re-activate the media sharing in WMP11, hopefully this should have done the trick. If not, make sure you have run through all the steps correctly and in the right order. Also note that this doesn't have to be done again unless the problem re-occurs, the services you turn on here are now set to load every time on booting up your computer.

Good luck with that.
