the date and time had changed on the computer but the password stayed, so now i cant reformat untill i some how clear this password

does anyone know how i can clear it? i dont have a floppy drive either so i cant boot up of anything

There might well be a default PW m8. Have you tried looking in the Instruction book for the Main Board.

I've just taken delivery of my new laptop and it didn't have an OS on it so I'm installing XP PRO as we speak. I couldn't figure out how to change the boot options to boot from the cd either (although it didn't have a password) but I put the XP cd in anyway and when it boots, it must check for a cd because it said press any key to boot from cd. Try putting in the cd and see if your is the same.

I dont kno how to get the password but i do know there seems to be a way round this.

What i done was booted up from the cd and rather than start doing a clean install i asked it to do a repair, Then when it asked me again this time from a menu from the cd i told it to do a clean install and continued as normal.

Worked a treat, 4 me anyway might be worth a try.

P.s i still dont have this password and looked in the books and documents that came with lappy and still not found it so if any1 has any idea where i could get it would be appreciated.

deedledawdle ill look for the manuel and check but i still dont know why it put a password on after ive been using it for two years and it didnt have one

i cant boot from cd the boot settings are to boot from my harddrive and i did try t but it didnt work

i just tryed removing a jumper next to the battery and that didnt work either

Do you think upgrading the bios would clear the password?

edit: i just remembered i wouldnt be able to boot up from a cd to upgrade, im stuffed i think

laptop bios's are different to pc bios. u cant just pull the cmos battery our or short jumpers. There are ways, test point, hard reset etc etc. some old ibm's allow u to reset bios battery by pulling the cmos battery out tho.

Ive already tryed that and it didnt work, i left it out for ten minutes, unless i pulled out the wrong jumper even though i can only see one

what make is ur computer m8??

if its dell some of them u can rest the password as its stored in a flash chip

even if u pull the red jumper time and date changes but password stays the same

on a dell comp with the flash chip

so u could try to google it or somthing
it would help if u could tell us what computer u got?

thanks

you may have to remove the battery and short the pins to ground the bios system, then it should work ok.

also swap the bios jumper over rather than just remove it to the other set of pins then hit the on button, it wont start but it will clear bios. then return jumpers back to original place and then power up

I cant try any of this yet because my sisters doing something on her computer and she get her internet through me

the jumper i removed had 3 pins and the jumper was over 2 of them

like this
- -
111

1 = pin
- = jumper

ill try moving the jumper over like you said

so its like this
- -
111

i read this just a minute ago so ill try this aswell

remove the battery then turn on the computer with the battery out and then put the battery back in

got a few things to try now, hopfully one of them will work :)

just do this this is wat i did

remove battery

put battery back in

remove jumpers

turn it off, then turn it off

then put the jumper back on...

I removed the batteryand turned on my computer and it still loaded

how would i short the battery terminals?

and i moved the jumper over tryed to boot up and it wouldnt even turn on but then when i put it back it did but it still asking for a password

ill try removing the jumper putting the computer on and then turning it off and putting the jumper back in
